Starting with the rich and slightly sweet malt profile of a Belgian triple we have added a hop charge every five minutes for full duration of the boil - each hop charge 100 grams larger than the previous one. The result is an immensely bitter ale - a 100 IBU's of course.
Ølfabrikken 100 gram IPA is, of course, unpasteurized, unfiltered and cask conditioned like all of our beers. Only available on tap.

"I picked this one up the other night and decided to pop it today on my day off. Aroma on this brew is very big and full of pine and citrus malt with some grapefruit and some lemon coming through with tons of bitterness and stickiness. Appearance is a hazy reddish-copper with some orange hues with a medium-sized head on top that is off-white and fuzzy and leaves creamy lacing on the glass. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied with some sticky and malty complexity as well as bitter balance with a palate that is a bit dry and sticky with some chewiness. Flavor is full of bitterness with some grapefruit and pine needles with an aftertaste that is full of dried-floral overtones and some sweetness with a finish that is mostly dry and very sticky but very fine. Overall, an interesting take by a Scandinavian brewer on the American phenomenon of IIPA's and a very good brew for sure. "

"Pours with an amber body with orange highlights topped by a thick head with lots of lacing. The aroma is slightly sweet yet full of alcohol esters and bitter notes. Some floral and medicinal notes show through. The flavor is full of alcohol esters with a piney bitterness and a chemical and medicinal note as well as, for lack of a better word, ass. Full bodied, oil and warming."

"Pours with a frothy, initially fat-two-finger thick, tan colored head. The beer is a soft reddish amber color, but shows a bright copper hue when held up to the light. The aroma is sticky with hop character; initially sweet citrus & fruit notes are dominant but there is a touch of sharper, slightly herbal notes at times too. This smells of orange blossom nectar, honey citrus jam, apricots, huge lychee, pineapple and peach. At times, after my nose has had some time to adjust, I get some biscuit like malt character along with the pine & herbal notes. Really though the hop derived, sweet citrus and fruit notes dominated this aroma, which is fairly smooth for such a hoppy beer.
Fairly sweet, which is coupled with the substantial fruity hop character. The beer finishes with a sharp, strangely herbal note that starts out in the middle; This note is like chewing an a hop vine, sort of menthol like, pine tar evoking, extremely green, with an astringent, aggressive edge to it and is almost vegetal. The finish is definitely a bit weird. This hop note couples with a solid bitterness in the finish. This beer is not overly bitter though as there is a substantial enough malt character to carry all the hops. The beer is not too heavy though, the body manages to stay out of Barley wine territory unlike some examples of the style. The hop character is clearly the dominant character here; fresh, juicy, up front flavors of candied orange peel, lychee, apricot, juicy fruit and a touch of berry notes.
If it wasn't for that really distinct, green off-flavor towards the finish, this would be a great example of a Double IPA. The flavor just can't seem to shake it though and it really can ruin my enjoyment of this brew. It does seem to mellow a bit after working on this brew for the last 45 minutes or so."

"Poured a redish color wiht small head and almost no lacing. Aroma was very much like tea bags and floral. Flavor was the same expected more citrus then i got. Okay at best."

"Pours a copper honey color w/ a full, semi creamy froth. Superb head retention w/ a lasting full lace. Strong aromas of creamy hop chards and meaty caramel. Full nectar w/ mellow residual effers crating a full, rich, creamy texture. This brew is decadent. Mouth watering citrus rind and fat carmel malts play off eachother like a killer handball tourney. A moderate sweetness w/ nuances of popsickle sugars, meaty grapefuit, tangy tropicals, herbs, new leather, and a pinch of sodium. The finsh is long w/ sweet citrus caramel. Watch out Yule Smith. Great balance. Decadent flavor play. Highly recommended."
