Abita Turbodog is a dark brown ale brewed with Willamette hops and a combination of British pale, crystal and chocolate malts. This combination gives Turbodog its rich body and color and a sweet chocolate-toffee like flavor. Turbodog began as a specialty ale but has gained a huge loyal following and has become one of our three flagship brews. Just a bit stronger than our other brews, so . . .beware of the dog!

"Poured a hazy amber-tinged dark brown; thanks to Suds McDuff for this brew. The substantial foamy tan head produces good lacing. The nose is mild roasted malt, nuts and a little honey. Smooth palate with a crisp dry edge. Flavors of lightly roasted malt with nutty chocolate notes. Finishes smooth but quite thin and short."

"11/18/2006 11:22:39 AM Before I start, the only other beer from Abita that I have sampled was purple haze, so I don’t have any expectations for this. …. 12 oz twist off cap. Slight yeasty aroma. Pours very dark brown in my steeler stein, but not opaque. Tan head that dissipates quickly. Initial taste bud hit is roasty and slightly alcoholic. Could not detect much chocolate. Finish is not offensively lingering but does have a slight bitter aftertaste that hangs on for a few minutes. The only other brown ale I sampled is Bell’s Best Brown ale. Not quite as good as that. "Not a very exciting beer. Pours a dark amber/brown color with tan head. Aroma is the standard roasted malts with a bit of chocolate. Taste is pretty much the same except for a slightly bitter finish. Tastes better when you mix in a little Purple Haze--more of a chocolate-raspberry taste then."

"Poured from a 12 oz bottle into pint shaker. Dark dark brown, almost black. Looks as if it could be a porter. Nice head developed and faded fairly quickly. Smells of roasted malt. The taste is good. Roasted malt with a hint of sweetness. This is almost like a cross between brown ale and porter. I enjoyed it very much."
