"Fränken Bierausflug, Day#4, Brewery#16, Beer#32. Vom Faß at Schlenkerla in Bamberg. Same mahogany color as the urbock with a somewhat lighter tan head with good retention and lacing. Aromas are more reserved but still robust and distinctive. Medium bodied, surprisingly light palate, eminently drinkable. Fresh solid malt flavors with a slight smoky bitterness. Light tart finish. Excellent."

"Pours dark brown with a tinge of red when held up to a light. Not much head or carbonation neither. Aroma is powerfully smokey! I didn't think there was much body. The flavor is truly enjoyable with a malty, hardy and woodsy design. There is a mild amount of bitterness but not so much as to overpower the other flavors. I have got to try this with some smoked ham!"

"A friend told me about this brew and I had to go try it. After all, what man doesn't like bacon. The beer poured a dark reddish brown with a medium sized tan coloured head. The aroma was quite simply smoke. I closed my eyes and I could picture a bonfire. The flavour was not so much bacon as it was roasted malt that was a tad overcooked, but perfect for a smoked ale."

"Liquid smoke in a bottle, I do like a good Rauchbier once in a while and there is no doubt that this is good. Pours a clear dark brown with a red tint. Thick, bubbly tan head coupled with stringy lacing. Smells like a wonderful campfire, lots of wood and smoke as well as a familiar pale lager aroma that thins out the heavy smoke. Body is lighter than anticipated. Malty and moderately bitter. Flavor is pretty straight forward with heaping doses of smoke, meat, and wood. A fun and interesting beer, I do enjoy this unique style. Their Urbock seems to be more to my liking though as it is thicker and heavier."

"500ml bottle
5.1%
I tried this beer on January 28, 2008 at "Smokeless Joe's" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a brownish-black into the glass with minimal head, and an 'oily' look. The aroma was smoked wood, as well as some roasted malty tones. The mouthfeel was light bodied, almost watery, yet creamy, with little carbonation. The flavour was very much like burnt bacon and burnt coffee."
