"Dark, rich and smokey. Absolutely fantastic color - deep and dark with a thick dark tan head and intricate lacing throughout. Creamy and smooth with a nice finish. Sweetly malted, but not too much so. A true experience - not something to rush."

"My new love for Islay Single Malts should influence my love for this beer. Well, the smoke her is nothing like the peat bombs that I crave - a different beast all together. Deep chestnut brown, light tan head is thin, nice ropy lacing. The aroma is a lot of smoke. Soooo much smoke.. but this time, unlike years ago, I can go beyond and see what else this beer has to offer. Burning logs that have had a bucket of water tossed on them, lots of salt.. in fact this beer is very beef jerky. Damn! That is it! There is also an underlying fruit that may be plum? So much salt - that is really making this beer awesome for me. The flavour is immediately NOT smoke. Serious. Plums I think hit first or something similar... have I just killed my taste buds? The smoke is much more mellow on the taste. My breath, however, will tell a different story. A story that includes 3 packs of cigarettes. Notable hops hit early on as well. A milder version of liquid smoke makes an appearance finally, solid bitterness... very solid - more than I expected. Lots of malts now, almost a dull chocolate but I’m drunk so who really knows what I’m tasting. More fruit that is a bit different now, ash, tobacco, tons of roasted malts.. what else? kitchen sink. Light medium bodied, a bit thin on a couple of sips but other than that its smooth and soft with some lingering bitterness shadow and what I’m assuming is a months worth of going to a Blues bar of smoke in my mouth. My dump tomorrow will be of epic proportion. Maybe I’ll just shit out a pack of Players. Very good beer. So much beyond that overwhelming smoke aroma. A real beer exists under that blanket. I could drink a ton of this in one sitting but I'd be divorced by mid morning at the latest. I love this beer."

"I bought this one for its style, i checked the reviews first so i knew it was going to be decent, but i dont care much for smoked beer, so i wasnt expecting much, but to my surprise this was pretty good. Despite a vigorous pour there wasnt much head and very little lace. Dark brown body, amber when held up to light. Aroma was great, smoke (of course) but it was just right not too much or too little, also with some malt tones. Flavor was similar with a great smoke balance, reminiciant of bacon, with malts in the back ground. It is an unusual style but this stuff was pretty good, and i wish i had another."

"Fränken Bierausflug, Day#4, Brewery#16, Beer#32. Vom Faß at Schlenkerla in Bamberg. Same mahogany color as the urbock with a somewhat lighter tan head with good retention and lacing. Aromas are more reserved but still robust and distinctive. Medium bodied, surprisingly light palate, eminently drinkable. Fresh solid malt flavors with a slight smoky bitterness. Light tart finish. Excellent."
