Alaskan Summer Ale balances a softly malted palate with the clean freshness of Hallertauer hops. In the tradition of the style, neither overpowers the other. Both hops and malt come together to refresh and renew the palate. The straw-gold color and easy drinkability are an enjoyable way to celebrate summer.

"It pours as a light amber with white head and excellent lace. Aroma of hops, grassy, lemon/citrus, mild berries, and spices. The mouthfeel is smooth, building, and rich. Flavors of rich malts, hops, grassy, some lemon, coriander/spices. Refreshing."

"Travel to Alaska and in every gift shop around the city of Anchorage, you'll see the apparel line of Alaskan Brewing Company. One of the shirts you'll see the most of is the Alaskan Summer Ale with an orca whale jumping out of the water. With all that advertising, you can't really leave the state of Alaska without trying the beer. With my most recent trip to Alaska, this tasting occurred at Pizza Man in Eagle River, AK.
When the waitress brought the beer out, it was in this huge goblet and looked amazing refreshing. It had a nice white foamy head across the top of the goblet and beneath that there was a orangy-gold brew. The aroma was a little on the weak side and not too pronounced.
In the flavor category, this one was pretty good with a nice mixture of sweet malts and grassyness. I didn't taste much in the way of any hops though. The sweet grassyness and clean, smooth mouthfeel did make this a fairly decent summer ale. It's not the best one I've ever had, but would really quench the thirst on a hot summer day. This is one of the better Alaskan brewed beers. "

" Pours a nice cloudy gold color with a thin white head. The aroma was floral of hops. It was a little sweet tasting but good. It had a nice balance of hops and malt flavor. Not a bad beer."

"Aroma is malty sweet with some freshness and is crisp and offers fruity esters like summer pear or apples with some grainy quality and maybe some slight soapy water. Appearance is a bronze-orange in color which isn't traditional to style with a medium-sized head on top that is bleach-white in color and is fuzzy and leaves decent lacing on the glass. Mouthfeel is light-bodied and clean with some nice malty balance with light hop accentuation and a palate that is crisp, sharp, and clean. Flavor is malty sweet with some slight caramel overtones with an aftertaste that is grainy and a tad metallic and a finish that is thirst-quenching and smooth and not too bad. Overall, a bit disappointed with this one and I guess I was just expecting a true American representation of the German Kolsch-style but it falls short and is more like your run-of-the-mill golden blonde ale; still recommended."

"Bottle: Poured an orangey color beer with an average size head with some medium retention. Aroma of grainy and somewhat unrefined grain is slightly bland. Taste is also dominated by some unrefined and grainy malt and some semi-sweetness. Body is slightly oily with a full body and some medium carbonation. Interesting take on the style but not something I would go for on a regular basis."
