AleSmith ESB Ale was the first beer produced when the brewery opened, and remains our flagship ale. Bright copper color with light tan head. Malty slightly hoppy aroma. Caramel and malty flavors with a perfect balance of imported English hops.

"Bottle courtesy of Naven: Poured a medium brown color ale with a medium foamy head with good retention and some good lacing as well. Aroma of dry malt with some fresh lightly bitter hops. Taste is also well balance between dry malt with some very light sweet notes and a dry light bitter finish. Average body with medium carbonation. Overall, I thought this was simple without much complexity but well made to quench thirst."

"I think this is more akin to the English designation of bitter, as opposed to the American brutal hop assault that I have come to know. I like it a lot, but I've had only a few beers like this. Tastes of some carmel and malts, with some underlying hoppiness to give it that extra zing. After I try some more of these style bitters, I'll be able to tell if this is really as light and uneventful as it seems to be. 6-13-08 add-in: this is a wonderfully velvety smooth beer. The taste is so intense, standard ESB flavors, but very rich. I don't know what I was thinking the last time I drank this."

"Caramel color, minimal head. Mild bready aroma. Sweet malty flavor but subdued, mild hop presence, typical AleSmith yeastiness. Good but not mind boggling."

"Pours a murky brown with a nice head. Aroma of apples, which surprised me. Flavor continued the apple theme. Almost seemed like a cider, but good. Not what I'd expect from an ESB, but it was definitely good."

"I almost broke the bank with this one. I was torn between, my favorite, Arrogant Bastard and this one especially since the Arrogant Bastard was about 2 dollars cheaper. I like to try a new beer once a week and I've been passing AleSmith by for a while now so I figured now was the time.
I'm disappointed with this beer. I guess I was expecting more since it was 1-2 dollars more than Stone products. Nothing really makes this stand out in my opinion. Nothing bad at all. It just seems like I can find this taste plenty of other places."
