Allagash Dubbel Reserve boasts a dark mahogany color with ruby hues and a complex malty taste. The finish is dry with subtle hints of chocolate and nuts. With time, Allagash Dubbel Reserve will mature in the bottle and acquire distinctive port and sherry characteristics. Suggested Food Pairings: Dubbel Reserve is an excellent complement to hearty beef stews, portabella mushroom and lamb dishes, or rich chocolaty desserts. Dubbel Reserve also pairs well with Brie, Cheddar, and Parmigiano-Reggiano cheeses.

"12/27/2007 7:40:53 AM BP S4L8F4T4O4 12 oz brown bottle. Aroma is a mild sweet well controlled hint of strong ale. Gunk on bottom of bottle provides for a swirling brown hazy pour, quite hypnotizing. Big initial alky content impact on the taste buds. More than I like for a Belgy. This is what makes the american belgy styles so different than the real belgies, its the lack of refined smoothness. I have yet to taste an american imitation of a belgy that is really civilized. Overall a little too strong on the alky character than I care for. Has a difficult time hiding the 7% and it leaves a lingering medicinal bite on the palate that hangs around for a while. This cannot hold a candle to Bornem Dubbel or Corsy Pater Brown. IMHO, I don’t feel that american made abbey dubbels should be in the same style as Belgies. "

"The aroma is slightly sweet and earthy with hints of spice and some figs and creamy-like and very aromatic. The appearance is a dark brown and earthy and hard to see through when held to the light with a big, off-white head that sticks to the glass evenly. The mouthfeel is full-bodied and very complex and extremely well-balanced and very good. The flavor is very tasty and very creamy with hints of spice and figs with a wet finish that coats the pallet very nicely. Overall, not as good as the 10 but still excellent and very refreshing and very enjoyable to sip on anytime. "

"4-Pack that recently showed up, I've liked what I've had from Allagash so far so I didn't need any convincing to give this a try. Dark, fruity malt aroma with an earthy/grainy quality partnered with mild spices. Deep amber pour with a 1/4" foamy head and great lacing. Hearty with a complex finish that leaves this beer clean and drinkable. Solid flavors of figs, raisins, and musty yeast. Some toasted malt and toffee was also noticed along with a bit of coffee and licorice. Not overly complex for it's style, a solid offering."

"Opened batch #73 today. As with the other reviews, this is one of the few, if any, bitter dubbels i have ever had. the pour, smell and appearance is the same as any other dubbel, but the taste will leave you wanting more"

"Tonight I opened the bottle marked batch #51. When I popped the cork I took a whiff of the cork and the initial smell of the beer from the bottle. The aromas of caramel and brown sugar were very pleasant. Once I poured the abbey dubbel into a wide mouth glass I noticed a brown colored body with a tan colored head. This was not as sweet as I expected because once I drank it I noticed some lingering hop bitterness. I find that strange because most abbey dubbels are sweet and malty."
