Old Foghorn® Barleywine Style Ale is brewed strictly according to traditional brewing methods, using only natural ingredients — water, malted barley, fresh whole hops, and yeast. Old Foghorn is based on traditional English barley wines.
Old Foghorn is highly hopped, using only Cascade hops. It is fermented with a true top-fermenting ale yeast. Carbonation is produced by an entirely natural process called "bunging," which produces champagne-like bubbles. Our "barleywine ale" is dry-hopped with additional Cascade hops while it ages in our cellars.

"This beer pours a deep pinkish-red with a tall beige head. The head is gone rather quickly, and it leaves a small layer of lacing.
The nose is sweet with floral hops, cherries and a hint of the brew's highish alcoholic content. The taste is piney and has less sweetness than the nose would imply. The aftertaste reminds one just how much alcohol is in that sip.
The mouthfeel is heavy, but there is not too much carbonation. Drinkability is good considering the ABV, but I think two or three or these would be enough for me at a time.
This is my first barleywine, and I am impressed with the style. I will be trying more of this style and this brew when I can."

"a little sweeter than some, but with a hoppier finish, it will leave you wanting more. this is one of the best barleywines out there. I remember thinking it was a little thin at first, but have since changed course. Great beer!"

"Amber in Color and smells of hops and Dry fruit. Some head that lasted. Medium body but felt really dry and hard to drink for some reason. Needed to be more sweeter for my taste.. I will give another chance one day. "

"Abv 8.8%. Reddish-brown color, pours with a very thin head that doesn't stick around at all. The aroma is sherry, grapefruit, and some alcohol soaked raisins. The flavors are sweet malts, grapefruit hops, not at all a hop heavy barleywine though, some rum or sherry notes with raisins and plums. Some really nice depth to this, easy to drink, incredibly smooth, and well-rounded. What a great representation of the style. One of those I enjoyed the more I drank it. "

"The first thought that entered my mind when looking at the bottle was good ol' Foghorn Leghorn. A cartoon classic. Anyway, to the barleywine. The beer pours a deep red colour with a minimal head. The aroma is sweet malt, some toffee, and molasses. The flavour is very sweet too, and you can feel the alcohol in this one. A pretty good quaff if you ask me."
