Anchor Porter is a unique dark brew, which was introduced by Anchor in the early 1970s. Anchor Porter, like all of Anchor Brewing Company's products, is brewed with only natural ingredients. Specially roasted dark malts are used, along with a top-fermenting yeast. The brew is hopped at a very high rate, and is naturally carbonated to produce an intensely rich flavor and thick creamy head.
The rich flavor of Anchor Porter has earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality.

"One hell of a porter! Not overly strong, near perfect balance...malty, creamy, just a hint of bitterness from hops. Dark black appearance with light mocha colored head. Wound up splitting this with brother-in-law today for Xmas....but now wishing I either bought more than just a single to sample or split something else instead so I'd have an entire 12 oz. to review. Going to have to buy a 6-pack of this, even if its like $10-$11 it is well worth it. "

"Poured into a pint glass from a 12 oz. bottle.
The pour is an almost black brown with a finger's worth of tan head. Retention and lacing are good.
The nose is a mixture of coffee and chocolate with a bit of toffee. The taste is more of the same with a mild bitterness on the finish.
Mouthfeel is medium-bodied with a lot of carbonation--maybe a tad too much. Drinkability is high; I wish I had another.
This is a nice, solid porter. It will be making a regular appearance in my fridge."

"A very nice porter comprised of coffee, chocolate, hops, and smoke flavors. Poured practically black with a thin tan head. Smooth and rich and enjoyable all around."

"Color is a beautiful opaque deep brown, tan head is fine-bubbled. Aroma is decidedly porter-ish with strong coffee hint. Rich porter flavor has strong chocolate overtone and smoky and hoppy components. Finish is bitter and zingy. Delicious and highly recommended - particularly on-tap."

"Now that's what porter is all about. When poured, it looked like a good cup of coffee - even had good coffee aroma. Thick head with awesome lacing. An excellent porter that will not disappoint."
