This is a beer where the hop came first! Rik Lyall, now of the wonderful Milk Street Brewery was working on a project for Cotleigh Brewery and was sourcing obscure hops from around the world. He had come across this American Dwarf hop, the Ahtanum hop, and recommended it to me. A really fruity hop, I decided to try it out on a dark bitter. I used Maris Otter, light and dark crystal with a hint of roast barley in the grist and then used plenty of Ahtanum hops at the begining of the boil, half way through the boil and then for the last couple of minutes of the boil, if you've got 'em flaunt 'em! A really satisfying fruity bitter, a popular one during those long winter months.
The label was painted by local graffiti artist Sam Smith. Instead of signing his works, he draws a little jester, that is also his nickname, so he just painted a full size jester with a glass in his hand... Jester Quick one was the obvious pun... sorry.
