The vintage port of American stout. A good ale for the cellar. Well suited for November storms and trips across the Sahara.

"Very black with no head. Vinous nose with fruit and chocolate. A wall of malt hits me at first sip, then licorice, tar, salt. The finish is full of plums, raisin and hop bitterness."

"WOw! An amazing day filled with amazing beers, I saved this one for last and good thing I did. Pours a deep, dark opaque black colour, with little to no head. Taste is incredibly creamy, rich with heavily roasted malts. Dark chocolate throughout. Aromas of coffee, chocolate and burnt toast. Little bit of black cherry, licorice, oak, coffee grounds and smoke. Excellent beer to say the least. "

"I've aged a six pack to save for next winter, and I felt like breaking one out on a chilly May night to review. The pour is midnight black with a 1 centimeter tan/caramel head that dissipates and caps the beer. The aroma is strong with licorice, coffee (LOTS OF COFFEE), and alcohol. You can easily smell the 11.5 ABV. The taste will floor you. Bitter, bitter chocolate, followed by dates, figs, raisins, and licorice. The alcohol bites slightly, followed pleasantly with a punch of hops. It's very thick/creamy with a heavy mouthfeel.
I love this beer, it's a sipper, but I really do wish it was carbonated just a little more. It definitely doesn't ruin the experience, and all beer drinkers should attempt to sip this one. It's a winner.
9/24/08 - cracked another 07 vintage leaving 4 for the winter. The extra 4 months has allowed a sweeter malt presence up front. Thick molasses, dark chocolate, and burnt toast now dominate the taste. I forced a thicker head, but still notice the lack of carbonation. Hops are still present in the finish, but they're dull. The finish is longer and smoother. This is one fantastic, complex beer. "

"Pours a old motor oil black, thick body. Head was medium in size, color was of burnt caramel. Aroma was sweet, dark chocolates, coffee and dark fruits. Taste was very thick and bold, sweet, I was surprised that I noticed the hint of hops in this stout. Just a remarkable beer all around."

"Finally decided to give this one a try. Bells brewery really knows how to get it done. The pour here is heavy and thick, pitch black color and topped with a thick tan head. The head does settle down to a thin layer. The aroma is chocolate with molasses, some coffee, roasted malts and a faint alcoholic presence. The flavor starts creamy and nice and smooth with chocolate, roasted malts and molasses. It finishes quite bitter and dry, that of fresh black coffee. A light bitterness settles on the palate. The beer is quite complex, high in alcohol, but not hard to drink, even if you are not a big stout fan such as myself. Definitely a sipper and something that could be a terrific after dinner drink. "
