"Once I saw this beer on the menu I decided to try it. I decided to try it with and without the raspberry syrup to gain some perspective as to why people want to drink it with the syrup. Without the syrup the beer had a champagne like effervescence and a golden colored body. Although it did not retain its head it had lots of little bubbles appearing to make their way from the bottom to the top of the glass. There were no flavors or scents that could be detected by the aroma but once I tasted it I noticed a tart lemony flavor that was very strong. After a few sips without the raspberry syrup I decided to add it. The raspberry syrup did sweeten the beer because the tartness and lemony flavor were not as strong with the raspberry syrup. Amazingly enough the syrup did not impart any raspberry flavor or color to the beer. If I did buy the beer again I would rather drink it without the syrup because I enjoyed the lemony tartness more than the cloying sweetness of the raspberry syrup."

"other than being insulted by the waiter who brought it to me ("you know this is like a kid’s beer over there, right?") it wasnt that bad. without the syrup, practically tastes like club soda. virtually flavorless. with the red syrup, it was oh so sweet. "

"Golden hazy colour, mediumsized head. Aroma sweet fruits, hops and wheat. Very sweet, but extremely dry lemon in flavour. Extreme dryness. Like a very good cider, more than a beer. Aftertaste of fruit and wheat. "

"BIG thanks to my best buddy Brian for this one. I've heard about this beer for awhile now, but up until recently it was unattainable. But as the fates have it, one was now in my possesion and it was going to be consumed. I decided to go with the raspberry syrup since thats how it's served in Germany, but I reserved about 10% to sample w/o the syrup. So first my thoughts on the beer w/o syrup. I couldn't detect a strong aroma of anything really, but there was a tart/lemony/citrus aroma floating about. Appearance was very pale in color. Mouthfeels was light. The flavor profile is was really made me notice. It was like a mini-gueze!! And we are talking very miniscule mini because it was tart and acidic but not over the top. So I poured the syrup into my Chimay goblet, and then the brew and it became this immediate pinkish liquid with an even lighter pink head. Aroma was raspberries and.....that's about it. Mouthfeel was still fairly light and suprisingly not real syrupy. Flavor profile switched from tart to incredibly sweet, basically burying any resemblence of a beer in the syrup. Overall I thought it was enjoyable (my wife even took a sip and said not bad and she HATES beer) but not my style. I'm glad I tried it, I doubt I will ever buy something like this unless I'm in Germany and this is what they've got. "

"03.13.05 330ml bottle. Thanks to Jimmack for this surprise! Pale yellow-gold pour is lightly hazed and littered with just a few strand-like bits. Slight head fades quickly to a thin white ring. Funny aromas of raw apples and white grapes but very light. Also a hint of sourness almost as if the glass was near the yellow mustard in the cupboard. Flavor is bitter, tart, and crazily astringent. A major shock to the buds. Acetic as can be. It’s like a bad dry cider that forgot the fruit. I can see why they sweeten the stuff and yet I’m left wildly craving more!? What a massive beer for such a low ABV. FUN FUN FUN!!"
