A truly Imperial stout with a touch of honey for smoothness, the flavor impact of a strong espresso, and a high final gravity.

"Pours midnight black and with a brown fine hide. Aromas of roasted malt are most evident in the nose. The roast malt flavors jump out at you in this beer. Fairly light bodied for an Imperial Stout (though it is in line with the lineup). A very good roasty beer. Finishes with a bitterness that is a combination of the roast malt and the hops. A pretty dry beer, with only a hint of sweetness, most of which is hidden by the roast character."

"Poured a dark brown color with a small, tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of chocolate, smoke, roasty malts, and some dried fruits. Taste of chocolate, smoke, dried fruits, some sour cherry, and faint lactose."

"What a freaking joke. This was by far the worst imperial stout I've ever had. First off, it's only 6%, which hardly qualifies it for the style. Plus a lot of the really interesting flavors that are part of a style are byproducts of the high alcohol content and the fermentation process that achieves that ABV. Even if I ignore the grotesque mislabeling of this beer, it's only an average run of the mill stout at best being thin and lacking much character."

"The first time I’ve ever seen a Grant’s beer in a 22-oz bomber, but this isn’t the first time I’ve had this. But seeing that it’s been ages since I’ve taken the Grant’s line of beer seriously, this might very well be a brand new beer to me.
That having been said, whatever enthusiasim I had for the new-look of this senior statesman of a beer was quickly diminished when it came to the nitty-gritty: the actual character of the beer coming out of my pint glass.
Looks and smells about what it should for the style, but when it comes down the mouthfeel (or, rather, the lack of mouthfeel), this beer isn’t hitting on all cylinders IMO. Way too thin and plain for what is basically meant to be something a winter warmer (in hardcore Czarist Russia, no less!). Rather, this comes across more along the lines of a “standard” stout, rather than a big-and-burly beer meant for sipping. “Imperial Stout Lite, anyone?”.
Aside from the grievous lack of gumption in the mouthfeel, this is a beer without too many drastic faults. I would much rather prefer to have something be a more lively in the finish, and simply more complex overall, but all in all, this does an “ok” job if you think of it as merely a “stout”. But considering that this is meant to be an Imperial Stout, this falls far short of fitting the bill.
First a lack-luster IPA, then a “Mandarin (Orange)” Beer, and now a new-and-rather-impotent Imperial Stout. Bert Grant must be rolling over in his grave these days….
