"Tasted at the May Northern California Beer Tasting. This is the version brewed at Russian River by Vinnie and Agostino. This spiced beer poured a slightly hazy light orange gold color. Large sized white foamy head. The aroma is floral and very delicate; there is a hint of roses and some fruit. A light bodied spiced ale. The malts are fruity and sweet. Lots of very delicate flavors, floral and roses, some honey and a fruit I guess is elderberry. Nice beer. You will really need to drink this one all by itself, any food pairing would overwhelm the flavors. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and dry. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. "

"This is the weirdest looking 750ml bottle I have ever seen; squat and almost like the new Sierra Nevada 24oz bombers, but thicker & different. The beer pours with a frothy, initially three-finger thick, light tan colored head. The beer is a hazy, honey amber color, but shows a lightly reddish tinged, fully hazy, orange-gold color when held up to the light. The aroma is light and spicy with aromas of lemon zest, orange blossoms, light honeysuckle, a touch of lavender and even some light ginger and pepper towards the end. This has a very floral aroma and it is quite inviting. A little bit of digging around reveals some malt influenced aromas of honey-malt, crushed saltine crackers.
Very dry, in fact one of the most dry tasting beers I have ever had. It is so dry that it tastes lightly tart and has a pepper-like flavor from a zippy carbonation. It is actually a bit fizzy, but it is so light that it does not feel gassy. The floral notes really come through as a nasal influence during each sip. Cracker & bread like malt mixes with touches of ginger some sourness (perhaps from the elderberries as this is more than just a typical yeast influence), and a light pepper hit in the long finish. Flavors of rose hip tea mix in with the general floral notes to provide a bit of herbal character that mimics the function of hops. Despite being so light, the malt character really does come through quite well here, especially as it warms.
I like that this is very easy drinking, it also has an interesting blend of flavors and aromatic notes (the nose more than the flavor though), but for some reason it is not nearly what I hoped it would be.

"Poured a golden color with hints of amber, thin initial head, and weak lacing. The aroma was wheaty, floral, spicy (ginger?). The flavor was wheaty, dry, spiced with some pepper and light ginger, pretty odd spicing going on, I liked Berts live "dill pickle" descriptor. Mouthfeel was dry and thin, somewhat acidic. A light but not so enjoyable beer. Good thing this was only 3.8%, as Bert had to down more than half of this on his own after I took off. Thanks, Bert!"
