I tried this beer on May 6, 2008 at Smokeless Joe’s in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer was mahogany brown with a tan coloured head. The aroma was roasted malt, coffee, and some slight hoppy tinges. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was roasted malt, some coffee hints, and some hoppy bitterness.

"I loved this beer. This beer pours a beautiful brown colour with a tan coloured head that lasts. The aroma is nutty, malty, and a little caramel and coffee background. The flavour is perfectly balanced between malt and hops. "

"Bottled@SBWF2007. Deep brownish amber colour, mediumsized head. Aroma is caramel, earth, malts and some slight metal. Flavour is the same without the metal, with some slight chocolate notes. Some slight hoppyness in finish. "

"Purchased in Toronto at a LCBO. Part 1 of 3 dark brown beer that are tested tonight. This one pours a clean brown colour that light can be seen through. Good beige creamy head with high retention and excellent thick and creamy lacing. The aromas are of dark malt, molasse, nut, wood and some dark fruits. As the brew breaths, some chocolat scent also appears. The mouthfeel is rather watery though, so this can make a good session dark ale. Taste is like the nose, but with some light burnt wood in the aftertaste. Quite refreshing for a nut brown."

"Taste like a brown porter and carries itself kinda like a stout. However, no mistaking the crisp nut brown flavour. This is a beer that I would put up against any other in its category, or even overall. A tremendous effort by the Black oak people who have captured the style perfectly. A great drinking experience, a must have for the fall season. Don't pass this one up. "
