Riggwelter: from the Old Norse: rigg-back and velte – to overturn. When a sheep is on its back and cannot get up without help, local Yorkshire dialect says it is rigged or riggwelted.
Riggwelter is a full flavoured strong Yorkshire ale brewed using the unusual Yorkshire Square fermentation system. The result is a well balanced, deep chestnut coloured ale.
With it's distinctive roast malt, Golding hops and banana fruit aromas, Riggwelter has a strong and refreshingly dry finish of hops and roasted barley malt.

"This is a clear beer in the brown colour range with reddish tinges wround the edge. The head is thin, tan couloured, and quickly disappears. The aroma is similar to an English brown ale with nutty malt, and a small hoppish hint. The flavour was primarily malty, with some sour hints, followed by a bitter hoppy finish."

"500ml bottle
5.7% ABV
I tried this beer on February 11, 2008 after purchasing from my local LCBO outlet. The beer poured a translucent reddish brown into the glass with a thick, creamy, off-white head that lingered. The aroma is primarily malt with a little skunkiness. The mouthfeel was full-bodied, creamy, with some carbonation. The flavour is also malty, very English."

"This strong Yorkshire ale pours a clear deep copper colour with a beige head that has decent retention and lacing. The nose is banana bread mixed in with roasted malt and mild caramel. The mouthfeel is pretty watery with a little stickiness. Nice roasted malt flavour with a dry and bitter (but not too much) finish. A very good darker strong ale, from a brewery I always enjoy."

"Bottle: Poured an amber color ale with an off-white foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma consists of notes of caramel with some dry malt. Taste is a nice mix between some dry malt with some subtle notes of caramel and what I believe to be a Fuggles hops ending. Average body with some medium carbonation. Well done and easy to drink."

"500ml bottle:
Pours a deep chestnut ale with shimmering ruby highlights in the glass. Decent sticky 2 finger cap..lasts, laces well.
Aroma: Figs, cocoa, earthy tones
Flavor: Rich, malty, some complexity of dried fruits-nuts-aromatic tobacco-cocoa, lush earthyness....finish is drying, and lightly bitter with some black malt astringency.
A very nice strong which hides its alcohol has a silky mouth feel and is both drinkable and satisfying"
