Brewery Description:
Blindmans was established in 2002 by David Capps-Tunwell (MBE), following a career in HM Royal Navy. The Brewery was named as David went into the venture as a bit of an unknown challenge, literally 'Blind'. It also refers to an earlier residence called Blindmans Cottage in the nearby village of Wanstrow. In early 2004, following a decision to move and live in France, David decided to sell the brewery following two years of established growth.
A program of change, investment and expansion at Blindmans Brewery followed the succession of ownership from David Capps-Tunwell to experienced brewers Paul Edney and Lloyd Chamberlain, both life long friends who grew up, live, and retain family connections in the Somerset village of Rode. New ales were immediately introduced to complement the Blindmans range. Rode itself boasts a strong history of beer production including Bass Charrington and Fussells Ales, sadly all now ceased.
Paul Edney was previously the head brewer at Ash Vine Brewery based at Trudoxhill for over 10 years during their period of major expansion and success as an established brewery. During this time Paul brewed nationally recognised ales such as Challenger, Decadence and Hop and Glory.
