1998 Real Ale Fest, Best of Fest Winner, this rich, copper colored ale features a full-bodied, hoppy flavor supported by generous amounts of malt. The recipe was carefully developed for the local palate and has become a favorite of BBC's regular guests.

"Pours a dark, murky copper with small, lasting head. Aroma is a little light by style, featuring herbal hops. The flavor has a decent malt character, slightly outweighed by bitter-citrus and floral hops. Medium bodied with very mild carbonation, smooth with a hint of warming affect. "

"Sampled from bottle. This APA pours hazy copper. Not highly filtered. Lots of caramel in the nose with some floral hops. Pleasantly bitter with a slight sweetness in the middle. Not a lots of hops in the latter additions. Quite a bit of body for the style - probably from the crystal malts. Well done."

"Bottle states a "hoppy full-bodied American Pale Ale", well the bottle don't lie. Poured a murky, unfiltered, thick orange/amber color. A dense, thick head rests on top leaving an abundant trail of lacing. The bottle conditioning is a nice touch. Green flowery hop aroma with a hint of citrus, overall the scent is rather subdued. Well balanced and very creamy. Full bodied with a sharp bitter aftertaste. Nutty caramel with a taste of fresh breads. Grassy, bitter hops that lend a touch of orange and grapefruit. Good brew"

"From a bottle. Pours a cloudy copper color with a decent head. Aroma is light and hoppy. Flavor is pleasant. Nice bitter flavor that lingers on the tongue. An ok beer overall."

[5] Review by mhot55 from staten island, NY, USA who has tried this beer a couple times. (4/26/2007 3:50:26 PM)
"This APA verges on being an IPA. Deep orange hue, not completely clear, slight haze (might've been chill haze). Has decent malt character to it, slightly bready with the slightest hint of sweetness. Hops are nicely present. not overwhelming, though, but they are the main actors. Thin off-white head, some lacing. flavors of citrus/ grapefruit. With all these factors, the body felt a little light, not really bad, but i was expecting a "heavier" feel. This change was actually nice. Beer went down easy. Good representation of an APA."
