Aged for two to three months in McLain & Kyne Jefferson's Reserve bourbon barrels, this stout is a richly flavored sipping beer, with a smooth chocolate taste and a hint of bourbon.

"Rich chocolate aroma backed up by roasted malts and coffee. Lightly scented vanilla and smoke. Wonderful opaque brown/black pour with a slowly dwindling two-finger brown head. Medium bodied and lighter for an imperial stout. Surprisingly creamy and scary drinkable. So smooth it rolls down the throat with no trace of alcohol. Flavor comes off as well blended, plenty of rich roasted malt providing numerous nuances of sweet chocolate, bitter coffee, baked nuts, and heavy molasses. A trace of organic peat coupled with an inviting sweet vanilla taste. Balanced out by some mild floral hops that add just a touch of bitterness. Fairly tame, especially when compared to some of the more aggressive imperials out there; but this one really holds it's own. Bottled in January of 2008, and I see no reason for any additional aging. I like this one, may have to go back for a couple more bottles."

"Got this at Coastal Wine shop in Newport News, Va. Pours a dark body with a slightly roasted caramel head. Aroma was whiskey and kaluha, and some butter scotch. Yummy, tastes of dark chocolate chocolate (like a milky way), coffee, really smooth, very delicious, tastes not as bold as I thought it would be but none the less this is a very good brew. Worth the $3.15 i paid for it."

"The first initial taste is of oak and whiskey. lots of roasted nuts, chocolatey smoke and very rich in texture. When i took the first smell I was hesitant to whether or not i would like this, but immediately realized it was worth the money."

"From notes:
Pours dark black, with just some hints of light seeping through the edges. The head reaches about one finger in height, and then fades very slowly to a solid cap that leaves behind a very solid lacing.
Smell; you definitely can smell the bourbon, but it's not as overpowering to me as some others that I've had. Vanilla beans and coconut are present, as well as a little chocolate, and some molasses.
Taste; as with the aroma the bourbon as the initially what you taste, but then the other flavors come through. Vanilla and chocolate, some dark fruits and molasses and just some hints of coffee.
Mouthfeel was bodied and very creamy, with a nice smooth carbonation, and though some alcohol was detectable, I didn't think it detracted from the overall drinkability. This made for a very nice after dinner beer."

"Pours dark mahogany with a thin tan head, decent lacing and medium low carbonation. Aroma is very strong chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, smoked hickory, and espresso. Mouthfeel seems a bit on the thin side, and a little slick. Flavor is on the sweet side, milk chocolate, liquid smoke, vanilla, lots of bourbon, sweet toffee, and some roasty coffee. A very good bourbon barrel imperial stout, although it could use just a touch more body. "
