J. Boag & Son will launch their 2003 limited release beer, Boag’s Honey Porter, on Tuesday, 12 August 2003.
Master Brewer, John Hood, described the beer as unique because it combines the brand new Tasmanian Van Diemen hop variety with Tasmanian Golden Nectar Real Leatherwood Honey in a traditional porter brew.

"Pours a clear, copper dark amber, almost red...off-white head with nice lace.
Aromas of nutmeg, P.O.R. hops, green fruit. Some fleshy, gamey, barnyard notes.
Flavour of green hops, some candy-like sweetness, with spicy musky phenolics, some slight similarity to Belgian ale. Crystal malts. Apple & pear aftertaste.
Nice mouthfeel. Medium bodied, medium bitterness. Slight tartness on the lips at the end.
Not a bad drop.... I reckon it would go well with roast pork & all the trimmings."

"Looks great like a nice glass of dark golden sparkling tree sap. Just a slight honey taste right at the back of the mouth, and has a light sweet soft aftertaste, and as teh bloke before said "A drink to savour rather than quaff""

"May ushers in the coldest season of the year here in Australia and from our southernmost state comes a brilliant seasonal winter beer.
Boag's Honey Porter is light treacly-brown in colour offering notes of honey toffee on the nose. A sweet beer, malty, with the honey still evident on the palate, not bitter at all and in the mouth it's all mellow creaminess.
A drink to savour rather than quaff. Find a fire & some good friends
