While many American beer aficionados enjoy Belgium’s strong specialty ales, we’ve also enjoyed Belgium’s excellent pale ales, on draft at every bar in Antwerp. Brooklyn Antwerpen Ale is our homage to those beers, which have spicy, floral aromatics and mild, biscuity flavors on the palate. These beers are great with choucroute – the tasty local dish of sausages, thick-cut ham and sauerkraut – and with a wide range of other foods. These beers taste brilliant in Belgium, but frankly, by the time they reach our shores, they’re usually a bit tired. We thought it would be fun to bring this beer style to you brewery-fresh. Like the originals, we’ve brewed Brooklyn Antwerpen Ale from lightly caramelized European malts and fermented the beer with a special Belgian yeast at unusually high temperatures. After a few weeks of ageing, the beer is filtered and emerges bright amber. At a sessionable 5% by volume, this is a flavorful beer you can stick with for the evening.
Malts: German Munich and Pilsner malts, Belgian Aromatic malt.

"The aroma is a bit fruity and sweet with some hints of pears and some bananas with slight spice and yeast. The appearance is murky to hazy in color and is a light yellow with some overtones of orange with a nice, white, bubbly head that disappears quickly. The mouthfeel is light to somewhat medium in body with some good yeasty complexity with some balance. The flavor is of bananas and is floral and sweet with a very slight metallic taste in the aftertaste. The aftertaste is also pretty smooth and not too bad and you experience yeast as well. Overall, not a bad beer but could be better and not the best example of an abbey pale ale I have had. It just seems something is a bit lacking; nonetheless, a good brew for the Summer months."

"I was told by my bartender who is a beer geek, that if you like Blue Moon you will like this beer. He was right-on with this one. The aroma was what I expected in that it had a citrus smell The pour itself was a small head that dispersed quickly. The mouthfeel and flavor is where this beer shined. It tasted somewhat of a farmhouse style Belgian ale, spicey with a citrus orange flavor. I will defintly taste this beer again. "

"A very nice tasting Belgian Ale. It had a dark red-brown colored body with a head that dissipated quickly. Antwerpen had toffee and caramel like flavors on the palate but it had a bit of a thinner mouthfeel to it than I am used to in Belgian ales. Otherwise it was very good and would order it again in the near future."

"Poured a dark copper color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of toasted dough, toffee, citrus, and light spices. Taste was more toasted dough, with a pronounced citrus character, toffee, light nuts, and a bit of caramel."

"Pour was an odd light orange color, decent head, no lacing. Weird yeasty flavor. Light flavor of mild citrus, some biscuity flavors and sweet malts and a touch of mild spices. Doesn't taste very Belgian-esque. Odd."
