In April 2000, a panel of 33 International Brewing Experts at the Millennium Brewing Industry International Awards in blind taste tests, voted O’hara’s Celtic Stout the World’s Number One Stout above 74 competing products. The awards held since 1886 are regarded as the most esteemed brewing competitions in the world. The Judges brief in judging the different beers was two fold; firstly in terms of its sensory appeal (i.e. taste, smell etc) and secondly to accredit the commercial worth of the beer quality. They awarded O’Hara’s Celtic Stout the prestigious title of Champion Stout in the International Dark Milds, Stouts and Porters competition in addition to the Gold Medal in its own category for beers between 4.2-6.9% abv. Full bodied and luxuriously smooth it is the combination of traditional stout hops, an extra pinch of roast barley and crystal clear Irish water that make O’Hara’s Celtic Stout a delicious stout with just enough malt sweetness to balance that discernible roast bite.

"Pours as dark as Chauncey... remember him from Blackstreet? he was as black as the street ways. The aroma was fantastic.. first time I looked at this beauty I was impressed... and very interested in how it would taste. Not as good As I would have liked. Smooth tasting stout is the best I can to describe this above aver Irish beer."

"Very black pour with an understated aroma, this stout is surprisingly dry and astringent. I was surprised by the dryness which translates to a light bodied mouthfeel. It is quite drinkable but I would not choose it over other more full bodied stouts. Although I don't drink Guinness very often, I think i prefer it slightly to this. But it is still worth a try. You might like it!"

"Wow that’s a nice looking beer pure blackness with a one inch thick cap with awesome retention this beer looks pretty much perfect. Aroma is slightly disappointing but still acceptable, burnt smokey malts with a slightly sour finish, aroma is a touch mild. Flavour is very smokey and sweet, taste is also mild and watery but still good. Dark baker’s chocolate seems to live in the finish what is also dry and clean. Very acceptable brew, tasting and refreshing I would drink again."

"Pours a nice healthy black color topped by a quarter inch or so of cream colored foam. Sparse head retention and lacing. Mild aroma of roasted grain. The flavor is more prominent than the aroma - mild roasted grain with a hint of coffee. It is quite tasty and dry in the finish. Body on the light side, as is the carbonation, however I think it is a fair representation of the style."
