Jet black in color. Big-bodied, rich & hoppy with a sweet maltiness that includes some molasses notes

"Pours a brownish/black color with a small, but foamy tan head. Dark chocolate, roasted malt, coffee with hints of vanilla and licorice. Taste is similar to the aroma with the chocolate leading, quickly followed by the roasted malt and coffee resulting in a bitter, but pleasing finish. Full and creamy mouthfeel. To my palette, it's sort of a porter-stout hybrid, and that's a good thing. Dark Horse, once again comes through, one of my favorite "under the radar" small Midwest brewers. Recommended. "

"Not sure what this beer wants to be, perhaps it doesn’t want to be anything except for a tasty dark ale. Opaque brown body, very dark color. Thin brown head and spotty lacing. Aroma of burnt pan leavings, roasted malt, coffee and more roasted malt. Thick with an upfront bitterness followed by a burnt kick. Finishes full. Heavily roasted flavor with an English malt influence. Some dark berries and lots of bitter hops. A lingering after taste of coffee and nuts."

"Pours out in an opaque black appearance topped with a small beige head. Rich but a bit simplistic aroma of black chocolate with minty and grassy hops. Nearly full-bodied with strong notes of chcoalte sauce, cocoa powder, cookies and mint. Long full medium-bitter aftertaste of dark chocolate, brown sugar, crackers, grass, mint, mild black pepper and mild alcohol. Flavourful but certainly not elegant"

"Received in a trade. I don't recall from whom, but again...thank you. The style here in BP says a schwarzbier. No way in hell is this a schwarzbier. Too sweet, too much body..too much everything to be a lager. But it's tasty I know that much. The beer pours out a deep black color with a rich, creamy 1/2" tan head. Swirling my glass, the beer has some really nice legs to boot. The aroma is very roasty, with lots of dark chocolate, anise and vanilla. Flavor had almost too much "ash" flavor of black patent malt, but rides the edge of just enough and too much. Black patent can be overused but someone restrained themselves enough not to go completely overboard. Coffee and chocolate round out the flavor with some molassess and subtle boozy vanilla hints creep up. But a very enjoyable beer."

" Dark Horse Reserve Special Black Bier 2.2 cheapdark
Schwartzbier? Hah, no way. Big black pour with a choco moose head. Pours like an imp stout, smells like a good imp stout. Tasted is roasted, burned and forward. Like any other impy stout. Must be in the wrong style category. Gunk on bottom of bottle, yum. Big impression with a bitter finish. wew
