An Imperial I.P.A. brewed to be savored from a snifter.
A big beer with a great malt backbone that stands up to the extreme hopping rate. Descriptors: Brandied fuitcake, raisiny, citrusy. This beer ages well!

"I've heard a lot about this beer and really wanted to try it, hence our DIPA tasting night. This was a very balanced beer. Probably the maltiest beer of the evening, and enough hops to give the hop addict their fix."

"12 oz. bottle into a Duvel tulip.
Beautiful, dark, cloudy, amber color. Large head which quickly disappears. Lacing is wonderful and lasting. Good carbonation. Nose is as balanced as the taste. Malts are there and so are the hops. Sweet, citrus. Mouthfeel is medium. Taste is complex - citrus (lemon, grapefruit) with strong malt backbone. Some alcohol warming but subtle. Balance is the word that typifies this beer - malt and hops, sweet and bitter, etc. A good Double IPA for people to try who aren't looking for extremely bitter which is so common in this style. By the number of reviews, EVERYONE knows this beer. It's no wonder - great beer, reasonably priced and widely distributed. I like the 60, the 120 not at all, and yep, this is the perfect compromise. If you are one of the few who has not had this, you need to."

"A very mild nose, actually lacking in the aroma department which is too bad because what there is is nice; pine, ripe fruit, good solid malt, some citrus.... I would just like it to have more presence. Minimal off-white head, poor retention, slight lace sits atop a reddish copper body that is clear. Mouth is full, a bit creamy which is a surprise, but lacking in carbonation. Flavor is complex. Quite malty at first blush, then major hops kick in, finish is clean, aftertaste is bitter with major warming effect for alcohol that is not masked. The blend of malt and hops seems unique, its almost sweet in mid-taste with a sense of overripe fruit, raisin, plum, etc. Hops are more bitter then flavorful but they attenuate the malt to produce an unusual flavor profile, it almost seems as if they kick in a bit too soon... its like a I am about to get really interesting fruit flavors when the hops kick there way in and extinguish them just a bit too soon. This actually makes the tasting interesting. I also get some vanilla/maple syrup flavor. Its a bit buttery which, I suppose, it really shouldn't be. I am really just surprised that the hops are not more predominant; relatively little pine and citrus in the taste. Its like a noble pils got pumped with biscuit and alcohol. I really like it a lot but I think its way off base for the style (although my experience with Imperial IPA's is minimal) so I guess I will score flavor high. Give me better carbonation and pump up the hops citrus a bit more and I would love this beer. As is this brew seems more Belgium then IPA, find an new name and the rating would go up, what an odd predicament!"

"Imperial IPA's are probably my favorite specific style of brew, and I would not call myself a hop head by any stretch, but very much liked this beer. The first one of the four pack seemed to have too much hops for my tastes, but the other three where quite good. Not much else I could add to the reviews, but it was very good."

"I was so unimpressed with the DFH 120 minute that I hesitated in buying the DFH 60 minute. I was so enamoured with the DFH 60 minute that I had to buy the DFH 90 minute. This is one of my favourite beers. The hoppy aroma and flavour are near perfection!"
