A cross between a Scotch Ale, an I.P.A., and an American Brown, this beer is well-hopped and malty at the same time. It is brewed with Aromatic barley and caramelized brown sugar.

"Very nice bottle pour of darkish red/brown with a thin white head. Aroma is of brown sugar, toffee, and caramel. The crystal-malt like scotch ale is evident up front, very smooth transition into brown-ale/IPA territory with a sharp nutty and fruity window that gives way to a quick hop burst. Quite drinkable. Alcohol is present in the aftertaste. This beer has quite a bit going on, as the mish/mash of scotch/brown/IPA blends together so quickly. Still, its very unique. I'd expect nothing less from Dogfish. If you can, try this on draft, the hops are more apparent. "

"As with some other DFH offerings, this beer took a few attempts for me to fully appreciate the contents. I was slightly put off by my first bottle, but after enjoying the remaining bottles over a week plus It did eventually grow on me. And abrupt, in your face aroma of burnt toast, coffee, cream, and roasted nuts hits you immediately. There is also a strong noble hop presence. Rich brown color with a deep red tint. A billowing tan head that ultimately settles leaving a stream of heavy lacing. Heavy on the palate, very bitter with a rolling creaminess. Assertive flavor that slaps your face before it settles down. Burnt malts that are both nutty and sweet. Bitter coffee and floral noble hops. Dark chocolate with brown sugar. Gritty and abrasive, this beer needs time to be enjoyed. Not an everyday choice for me, but once a year should do the trick."

"An above average beer. If it has a strength, I'd say it's the mouthfeel of the beer. The beer also had a nice deep color. It complemented my burger well. "

"This one poured a dark brown color with a frothy beige head. It had aromas of dry roasted malt and a flavor to match with notes of coffee. Finished slightly dry."
