A big, belgian-style Wit brewed with coriander and orange peel and fermented with Pinot Noir juice. After fermentation a fraction of the batch is aged in Oregon Pinot Noir barrels, and another fraction is aged on oak staves. The beer is blended together before packaging.
This has been one of our most popular Limited Edition beers at both our Rehoboth Beach, DE brewpub and at festivals. It successfully marries the refreshing citrusy qualities of a Belgian-style white beer with the robust complexity of a bold red wine.

"This was a really nice beer. It was pretty gritty and had an unfiltered appearance. The beer tasted like a classic Belgian witbier with an strong orange and citrus undertone. I have been looking for this beer for some time and I was very impressed. "

"Sampled on 4/30/2010. This Belgian Strong Ale pours a slightly pinkish orange gold color from a 750ml bottle. Medium to small sized white foamy head, with nice lacing and good retention. The aroma is fruity, sweet, grapes and some wood. A medium bodied Belgian Strong Ale. The malts are fruity and sweet, with a quite noticeable grape flavor. The hops are earthy. There are some hints of beery from the Pinot Noir Grape juice, and some wood and some oak. Nice carbonation. I like this beer, I am just not sure how to describe it, you can definitely pick up the Pinot Noir Grape Juice aspect, and the oak and wood. Hides the alcohol very well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter and oaky. "

"It is beer like this that makes Dogfish Head such a great brewery. You can say what you will about this beer but it is a different and one of a kind beer. When you pour it has the cloudiness of a wheat beer and and an almost reddish tint. You can very much smell the Pior Nior in the aroma. The taste is a mix of wheat, orange, corriander and the Pior Nior. I served this beer to some friends with a dinner and it was an excellant replacement for a group that is not such big wine fans. I would recommend this beer for any reason but definitly for sharing at dinner parties and such."

"Interesting beer to say the least. Very, very malty. Taste of orange and corriander also. Alcohol is readily tasted. Pours out a copper color and has ample white sediment. As I already said, very interesting, but overally much to malty of a flavor for me to enjoy past the first few sips."

"i'm still at odds on this one. it started out just sweet with not nearly as much complexity as expected. obviously as it warmed from 45, it got better and more complex. i'm still not sure about the interplay betweeen the sweet pinot aspects and the bitter orange peel, but the aftertaste that was a little harsh at first was better by the end of the bottle. the aroma was nice right off the bat. sweet but complex...grapes, citrus, malt. nice body...maybe a little cloying. not my favorite DFH beer, but not bad. better beers for the price, though."
