A big, belgian-style Wit brewed with coriander and orange peel and fermented with Pinot Noir juice. After fermentation a fraction of the batch is aged in Oregon Pinot Noir barrels, and another fraction is aged on oak staves. The beer is blended together before packaging.
This has been one of our most popular Limited Edition beers at both our Rehoboth Beach, DE brewpub and at festivals. It successfully marries the refreshing citrusy qualities of a Belgian-style white beer with the robust complexity of a bold red wine.

"Interesting beer to say the least. Very, very malty. Taste of orange and corriander also. Alcohol is readily tasted. Pours out a copper color and has ample white sediment. As I already said, very interesting, but overally much to malty of a flavor for me to enjoy past the first few sips."

"i'm still at odds on this one. it started out just sweet with not nearly as much complexity as expected. obviously as it warmed from 45, it got better and more complex. i'm still not sure about the interplay betweeen the sweet pinot aspects and the bitter orange peel, but the aftertaste that was a little harsh at first was better by the end of the bottle. the aroma was nice right off the bat. sweet but complex...grapes, citrus, malt. nice body...maybe a little cloying. not my favorite DFH beer, but not bad. better beers for the price, though."

"A deep reddish body, small, thin head, not much lace. Aromas of coriander, wine notes, and some yeast. Flavor leaned a bit more towards the wine, with the wit in the background, finish was of alcohol. Overall it was a very interesting beer, worth a try but for the price i am not sure if i would purchase again."

"Alas, another big Dogfish Head Beer - an Imperial Witbier - it pours a clear reddish amber with a thick and heavy head that leaves some nice big lacing - a beautiful beer. Big citrus, zesty spices and black pepper, and sweet malts are big in the aromas. Taste is much as the aromas - Big Belgianish - with a initial sweetness then the spices and orange-citrus some through with a warm finish. The 10% abv is well hidden. Another Big winner from DFH."

"Sampled on draft at Redlight. Reddish-amber color with a nice bar poured off-white head and a notch of lacing after each sip. The aroma seemed a tad on the mild side with bananas, cloves and yeast. Lots of bananas and cloves show in the flavor with some vanilla and berries with an alcoholic tangy finish. This really is an Imperial Wit but dangerously drinkable. Good beer... I was hesitant to buy a bottle of this because I wasn't sure if it would be any good but the draft I had was quite tasty. "
