A smooth and sturdy stout, made with 10% rolled oats, roasted barley and chocolate malt. The name is referential to the founders of Thebes, warriors who sprang from the earth when the teeth of a slain dragon were sown by Cadmus. Bittered with Chinook; finished with Cascade and Columbus hops.

"Tasted at the April Northern California Beer Tasting. This foreign stout pours a deep black color from a 22oz bottle. Small to medium sized tan head. Aroma is chocolate and coffee with some wood. A medium bodied stout. The malts are chocolate and burnt malts. The hops are earthy. There is a fairly pronounced ashiness to this beer, which sort of detracts from the other flavors. Nice balance. Good carbonation. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is crisp and clean. Aftertaste is slightly bitter and a touch of ash. "

"THis is how all stouts should be. The beer is a dark brown, almost black, with a thin light brown head. The aroma is all about the malt. It's a nice creamy beer that has some good malt and chocolatey flavours. I recommend this beer."

"Pours black with little head, that dwindles down to nothing. Very low carbonation, and no lacing. Aroma of molasses and sweet milk chocolate, some light smoke notes and roast. Flavor starts sweet and smooth, lots of molasses and sweet chocolate up front, dries out a bit, some leather and tobacco, charred oak and dark chocolate. Long roasty finish, a unique and tasty stout."

"Bottle from 5000/Larry Pitonka. The pour was pitch black, nice choco-colored head, great retention, very nice lacing. The aroma was wonderful, lactic chocolate notes along with some roasty coffee. The flavor followed the aroma, very well crafted and balanced, the only consolation in watching OSU get man-handled by LSU tonite. Milky chocolate, cocoa, and coffee blends that went together very nicely, semi-sweet finish, but not sweet. Mouthfeel was full, short of sticky, nicely supported by the malts and carbonation both. Thanks, Andre, great stuff!"
