Gordon Biersch's Dunkelweizen won a Gold Medal at the L.A. County Fair in November 2007. It will be carried by select retail locations in Northern and Southern California, Nevada, Arizona, and Hawaii through the month of June. Like all Gordon Biersch varieties, Dunkelweizen is brewed in strict accordance with the German purity laws at its state-of-the-art San Jose brewery.
The word Dunkelweizen (pronounced "doonn-kel vite-sen") translates from German to mean "dark wheat beer". It is essentially a dark version of Weissbier, also known as the popular Hefeweizen. Gordon Biersch Dunkelweizen achieves its malty flavor from Bavarian dark malted wheat and caramelized dark wheat. The roasted malt taste compliments the unique flavor profiles created naturally from specialty Bavarian Hefeweizen yeast. The overall flavor profile includes pronounced clove, citrus, banana and bubblegum.

"Can't really complain about this one too much, it was actually pretty tastey! Pours a muddy copper colour with a small tan head. lacing is basically nothing, but mouthfeel is nice, bubbly and lively very pleasent. Aroma is of cherries and raspberries, milk chocolate and spice. Taste is creamy, fruity and everything nice. Apples, cinnamon and jerky."
