[1] Review by Phil B from Gatineau, Canada who has tried this beer once. (5/1/2008 1:23:21 PM)
"Bottle: Poured a deep clear brown/burgundy color ale with a nice foamy head with good retention but no lacing. Aroma of caramel malt with some medium sweet notes also noticeable. Taste is a mix between some medium sweet malt with some notes of caramel malt. I could not detect any peat malt which is usually a characteristic that I enjoy in this style. Body is a bit thin and somewhat watery for the style with some good carbonation and alcohol is not discernable. I was a bit disappointed by this one, I thought it lack body and some smoke notes."

"33 cl bottle, as "Gordon Finest Scotch Highland Ale", courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 8.6%.Copper colour, large beige head. Pleasant aroma of malts, caramel and hops. The flavour is very sweet as expected, malts, sugar and caramel galore, but the sweetness is to some degree balanced by decent hops, which linger in the aftertaste. Still, the beer is sweeter than I’d like it to be. But at 8.6% ABV, this is not an easy-drinking refreshment beer anyway. Worth a try, when you know what to expect."

"Not too much fom, with bubbles on the larger side. Dark brown color - the Gordon glass accentuates the nice color. Spice flavor, with hins of brown sugar. Strong, spicy taste, which lingers for a long time. Ideal beer for drinking during winter, while sitting close to the hearth/stove, while it is raining or snowing outside."

"Pours dark, dark brown. Head forms easily large bubbles nested in a moderately stiff foam of smaller ones. Head lingers, but does finally dissipate to a very thin film of a head. Aroma is huge. Surprisingly strong citric hops are backed my a huge blast of rich toffe-chocolate malt. The malts hit the tongue first and quickly combine with the hops. I'm not used to a Scotch Ale being this hoppy, but it's good. At the very end I pick up a small hint of smokiness. Very balanced. Very smooth, especially considering the smack in the face the aroma gives you."
