"Bottle sample poured motor oil black with a small dark brown head that disappears quickly. The aroma is dominated by dark malts, brown sugar, and molasses. Mouthfeel is surprisingly thin, but it's definitely drinkable. The taste is nice, with strong cocoa and chocolate flavors dominating, along with black licorice, figs, and with the aftertaste, hops. The hop addition is a nice touch. Very nice beer, especially for the cold northeast winters watching a Pens game. Stout lovers should check this out."

"Nice mocha brown to dark brown hue sits underneath a tan frothy head that has ok staying power for a while, but melts quickly. Caramel, cocoa, coffee (espresso?) and malt entice the nostrils, while the buds enjoy a full body stout that consists of roasted dark chocolate malts, prunes, figs and organic earth. Peat comes to mind for some reason. Very resin like with just a pinch of a hop tinge to keep you awake. I like Great Lakes Blackout Stout, but I have had better."

"This beer was named for the electrical blackout experienced by the eastern USA in 2003. But at 9% alcohol it is a double entendre name. Have too many and you may "blackout!" It is black. As dark as black coffee. It has very noticable coffee overtones as well as a slight chocolate nose. Fairly smooth with a creamy mouth feel. I really enjoyed this beer. "

"Black color. Aroma has a lot of chocolate, light roast with some plum notes. It has a rich, deep, chocolatey character with burnt fruitcake roastiness that adds accent to the background. Rich, chewy and well-crafted. Finishes intensely with coffee, tons of malty sweetness and balancing alcohol. "

"Poors as black as octopus ink. Leaves only a small head that disapears quickly. Very strong taste, I was surprised it only has 9% ABV. If you drink more than a gulp at a time, you'll be looking for a High Life to use as a chaser."
