A complex, roasty porter with a bittersweet, chocolate-coffee taste and bold hop presence. Named after the ship that frequently docked in Cleveland and sunk in Lake Superior on November 10, 1975 with many Northeast Ohioans on board.

"Sampled from a bottle with no freshness date. Pour is a deep black with a dark tan head that caps and laces nicely. The aroma is dominated by brown sugar and earthy malts. Rich chocolate and coffee malts are present, finished nicely with a centennial/cascade hop addition. Mouthfeel is wonderfully smooth and creamy. I've always loved this beer - my favorite porter and just an all around great beer. "

"Presentation: It was poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance: It appears dark and opaque. It has a dark black color with deep crimson highlights when held up to light. The head is tan, thick and foamy with good retention. Some light tan lace slowly sides down the glass, chasing the head, as I drink.
Smell: The aroma is full and rich. It has notes of caramel with a strong dark roasted malt presence that has a deep roasted espresso character.
Taste/Mouth feel: Its flavor has deep chocolate roasted malts with flavor notes of coffee and cream with bittersweet chocolate. The hops play well off the malt and further develop the bittersweet chocolaty flavors before slowly fading out into the finish. The palate is smooth, creamy and slightly slick with mild carbonation and a medium to full body.
Notes: Outstanding. This porter is one of my personal favorites, with a wonderful balance of flavors and drirkability. I would highly recommend this as a stand alone drink or even pairing it with your favorite chocolate.

"i thought this was a watered down version of a porter, kind of thin and watery. Poured a nice color, and appeared ok . Just not what i was hoping for."

"A very nice offering from Great Lakes with this beer. It's one of the porters that stands alone, IMO where it really doesn't blur the lines between stouts and porters too much. A chocolatey/coffee aroma (more chocolate than coffee)...fairly simple. Appearance is dark brown, nearly black with brown edges and a nice off-white 1-finger head. Flavor is moderately sweet, chocolate, some roasty/coffee notes and maybe a touch of toffee. Easy to drink. Nice beer."

"Pours black with tall, airy head. The aroma boasts roasted malt with licorice accent. The delicious flavor boasts chocolate, coffee and enough bittering hops to present a nice clean finish. Medium bodied, well carbonated and gently warming."
