An amber lager with rich, fragrant malt flavors balanced by crisp, noble hops.

"Beautiful, deep amber body with an off-white head. Some lacing. The aroma was dominated by roasted malts, but hops are definitely noticeable in the background. Roasted malts comprise most of the initial flavor, as well, but the hops show up and balance things out in the middle and end. Roasted malt and somewhat bitter aftertaste. Good carbonation, and the overall mouthfeel is medium-bodied and smooth. This is a pretty nice beer, but I've had better examples of this style. "

"Granted, the bottle that I am rating is slightly out of date (best before June 07), but I don't think drinking it 4-5 months past it's "prime" will make much of a difference. Or does it? This beer just wasn't very good, which is strange because I absolutely love Great Lakes. An aroma of iced tea, lightly sweet with a bit of a twang to it. Appearance is stunning. A beautiful reddish/orange hue, mostly clear with a nice 1 inch head on pour which disipated to a thin scummy foam. The thing about the flavor was the tartness/sour factor which wasn't pleasing at all, especially in a lager. I would almost dismiss it as hop bitterness, but it reminds me of some kind of bug spray. I will definitely have to hunt down a fresher bottle and will re-rate if/when I do. But until that time, this beer was a letdown. "

"(Got this beer on a beer run while in Ohio - not available in Tennessee.) Beautiful deep, rich amber coloring with a very ample head - nice. Sweet and malty aroma, slightly nutty. Smooth and a little more hops in initial taste than in aroma balanced well with malts, finishes very balanced. Top-notch beer that is very satisfying and smooth."

"This beer was mighty tastey! It was rich in an reddish coloured pour. Soft fluffy medium sized head with malty taste. Caramel flavor was prevalent, and it was a really filling brew."

"Thanks for sharing Derek! Great stuff. Sampled along side Sam Adams Boston Lager. Both good, but this one stands out as the winner. Deep copper pour with a thin beige froth. Lots of caramel in the nose, followed by lots of munich and some hops to balance. Also, slight smoke is there. Very sweet malt flavours, with smoked peatm burnt sugars, and balancing dry hoppiness. Silky smooth! Why cant this be my everyday drinker? Ohh I know, cause I can’t get it here. :) THanks Derek!"
