A unique Highland creation, this robust beer is black in color, very malty with hints of chocolate-roasted flavor and a well balanced hop character.

"Thanks to bluesandbarbq, able to savor this fine oatmeal porter all the way from Asheville. Deep ruby-highlighted brown color with a thin, non-lasting tan head. Light nose, faint chocolate with lactose-sweet aroma. Intense flavors of coffee and chocolate with the smooth palate expected of the grain. A long, robust finish is the highlight of this brew; smooth, complex, satisfying; coffee, chocolate, sweet roasted malt, and a final euphoric lasting bitterness. Well done. "

"I got this one from my good friend Shannon. She recently moved to North Carolina and the last time she came to visit, she brought me a sampling from the Highland Brewing Company. Nothing like giving the Scottish kid some frothy goodness from a bottle with a piper on the bottle.
This beer poured out nicely. It's super dark and has a very nice head, but it quickly dissipates leaving a slight ring around the inside of the glass. There's no lacing at all. The aroma was virtually non existent and I was ready to give it a below-average rating in this department, but after about 10 minutes, a nice nose has quickly blossomed with this beer. The sweet smell of chocolate and caramel is now emitting from the glass.
The mouthfeel and flavor are pretty good. It has a nice coffee flavor to it with a bitterness. It is a hearty porter with a medium body to it. Pretty good if you ask me. I'd recommend trying this one if you run across it. "

"My first porter - I have gotten courage from my beerpal brethren. Tried this with a spicy, rich barbequed chicken dinner.
A deep brown-black brew with a nice frothy tan head. Aroma is strong with malts, coffee, and chocolate - a beautiful sweet smell. Rich sweet taste with coffee undertones and dark chocolate finish. Smooth and rich - actually very enjoyable for a drinker who so far has preferred the lighter beers."

"Bottle courtesy Shag/Clash. Poured a dark brown color, ok head, ok lacing, nothing spectacular either way. The aroma was chocolate and roasted malts. The flavor followed suit, oatmeal in the finish, but this thing was rather roasty keeping it from coming across anything like a sweet version of an oatmeal stout. Mouthfeel was light to moderate for the style, thinned out by the oatmeal I guess, light graininess to it all. Decent brew, thanks Matt!"

"Poured a dark black color good head and nice lacing. Aroma was of chocolate and coffee and malts. Flavor was much the same coffee was stronger then i would have thought, little thin for the style, but overall not bad. Really not sure if this is a porter."
