The Malt Shovel Brewery's handcrafted ale is a worthy tribute to Squire's brew. Crafted using the first extract - along with the finest malt, rare specialty hops and English ale yeast unique to our brew - James Squire Australian Strong Ale is a beer of considerable strength and character.

"Hazy, orangish coloring to this beer with a beautiful tawny head that's a perfect match. Aroma is biscuity - overwhelmingly malt oriented - like a liquid bakery. I guess with a name like Malt Shovel brewery they aren't really into moderation with the grain. Flavor is also heavy on the malt side although they do a good job adding some balance with the hop. I think the alcohol content also helps beat back the malt a little. Finishing hops add a nice dry note to the ending. Aftertaste has a faint hint of coffee. Very similar to their Amber Ale - just with a bit more gusto.
I believe this was previously brewed under the name James Squire Australian Best Ale. "
