This very rare and distinctive sub-category of pils would be the fresh, wild, herbed/hop pils. Unlike other german macro-pils, this bier is very distinctively herbed and often wild in aroma and taste, reminiscent of wild bay leaf, further perhaps bay berry, and a lure of fresh rosemary sprigs, a mineral taste briefly appears, just before a full-on-hops-straight-from-the-vine experience that lingers on for moments after each sip. The textured, sparkling white head acts as an excellent vaporizing conductor of the uniquely detailed qualities in the glass below, carrying the pungent and fresh character upon the air, in a perfume of luring fresh hops. This is the type of character in a pils that should be sought after, if not treasured. If however, although Jever Pilsner is not the best (fresh, wild, herbed/hop pils) in quality or elegance, it makes do, and is anything but pretentious. A standard to a list of table german beers for anytime.

"Vended from the machine in the lobby of my Frankfurt hotel. Poured from the bottle into the hotel-issue 'rocks' glass. Straw-yellow color with a foamy white head; left good lacing. Strong noble hop aroma. Smooth mouthfeel with a bit of a spicy edge. Very hop-bitter flavor dominates; also soft malt and grass. Drinkable but nothing special. "

"The aroma is rather decent with some grassy overtones as well as grain, corn, and hay coming through with only faint skunkiness. The appearance is a pale, golden yellow in color with a nice and full head on top that is fuzzy and a bleach-white in color and remains throughout consumption. The mouthfeel is very light-bodied with minor complexities of maltiness as well as balance with a palate that is wet-like. The flavor is grainy, of corn, is grassy, and hay with maybe some synthetic overtones as well as some sweet maltiness in the aftertaste with a finish that is crisp and dry and not too terribly bad and offers some faint hoppiness. Overall, interesting brew here and though it is by no means one of the better beers I have had from that region of the world, it lines up as a quality brew that is drinkable but is nothing special."

"First time I've seen this in the beer store. Green 12 oz bottle and when you pop the lid there are hints of vegatable boiled cabbage, sharp at first. Pour is like any other ubiquitous american lager. In the glass, the aroma becomes much more acceptable and clean. Taste is slightly bitter pilsner that build slowly to a medium bitterness. A more oppressive pilsner, like most of the ones considered 'good'. A mild beer with a building climax of a back in throat bitterness. Good average carbonation and it is welcomed. Personally I like pilsners that are a little laid back, but then would it be a pilsner? Warsteiner Premium Verum is much more acceptable than this as far as bitter impressions go. On par with DAB, St. Paulie and Bittburger. "

"Pours a perfectly clear, very pale yellow topped by a creamy, white, small-bubbled head. Soft malt in the flavor, not quite dry. Peppery hops. Fairly subtle beer."

"Took a good sip from a bottle and enjoyed it. This was surprising as it was warm and drunk in the sun, but still had a high quality taste. Just imagine how it would taste if it was cold! A nice herby feel to it, works great in the sun or for a party."
