Imperial Stout is a silky smooth, very flavorful black brew. It is a traditional style of strong stout originally brewed in Britain for export to St. Petersburg, Russia. The malty sweetness of the beer is tempered by a medley of roasted malt and the aggressive use of hops. A long conditioning time gives the brew time to mellow and mature. The beer is not filtered, allowing every subtlety and nuance to be enjoyed.

"Left Hand I.S. poured a black body, turning into a deep ruby when held to light. A creamy thin cap, with a little carbonation left some lace. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and alcohol. Taste was similar with the alcohol dominating the intial sip, turning into a sweet malty body, and then a coffee aftertaste. Mouthfeel is a bit light however. Overall its a pretty decent brew, I will have to try more of the Left Hand brew Co. products."

"Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is quite inviting, with strong whiskey and roasty espresso, dark chocolate and toffee. Mouthfeel is really distracting, it's rather thin, and even a little watery at times. Flavor starts very sweet, some rum and whiskey notes circle around sweet espresso, dark chocolate, some earthy woody notes, sweet caramel and toffee. Finishes a with some hints of roasted barley, which dries it out a little. Not the most complex imperial stout in the world, but if the body were beefed up it would be quite nice."

"Pours a very dark brown with some ruby highlights around the edges. Was expecting this to be a little darker than it is.
Smell is a little weak for this style: a little coffee and chocolate, and sweet. There's almost no hops in the aroma.
Taste is similar to smell. You get some coffee and chocolate, but there's to much alcohol in the flavor. There's barely any hop presence and the mouthfeel is thin for an Imperial Stout. Not a drain pour, but not something I'll seek out."
