This English style of beer, also known as Sweet Stout or Cream Stout, first appeared in London in the late 1800’s. The early brewers touted the health benefits of the milk sugar in this beer which today relates mainly to the increased amount of calories(no real health benefits…sorry). The milk sugar adds a well rounded sweetness to this dark beer and makes it an outstanding, year ‘round stout.

"I'm not a big stout fan but I do like this one. It has a nice brown pour, whose flavor is a coffee, chocolate and roasted malts with ahint of caramel with a nice sweet finish. The downside for me is the amount of coffee in the aroma, as I don't drink or like coffee.

"This was an excellent beer. Very simple. The pour is almost black, not quite, with a great deal of foamy tan head. The aroma is roasted malt, chocolate milk, and coffee. The flavour is sweet chocolate, with a bitter coffee finish. Simple, yet good!"

"Not too much going on here. It is a simple stout. Dark body with a frothy head. It has obviously been dumbed down for the simple folk. Medium mouthfeel. A little earth and burnt grain in the nose. Overall not too bad but left me wanting for more."

"I had this beer at Mikkeller Bar in Copenhagen, Denmark on 17 January 2011. This beer was an all around solid brew. The color was nice and the beer was heavy. It was just a tad sweet for me. I'm glad I got to give it a try."

"Poured a nice dark color, plenty of carbonation, flavor was good, and beer was thinner and quite drinkable.A very nice stout and interesting flavor profiles. Not overpower flavors, but good for the style.Recommend this round."
