In origin, this sweet-acid drink was obtained by adding fresh black cherries to a barrel Lambic of 6 months young. The addition of fruits provokes a new fermentation in the oak barrels. After another 8 to 12 months, only peels and stones left and the Kriek-Lambic is ready to be filtered and bottled. The residual sugar can be adjusted with straight-on fruit juice to give a refermentation in the bottle. This traditional type of fruit beer is more acid and less fruity.
Because of the limited availability of the "Schaerbeekse Cherries", just as to brew a less sour and more fruity Lambic beer, Lindemans farm brewery developed an unique natural method using pure cherry juice from unfrozen cherries. This straight cherry juice is blended with selected Lambic of different ages.
Kriek has a pink-red color and a delicious taste of sparkling cherry champagne.

"It pours out a black cherry-red with thin pink head and copious lacing. An aroma dominated by cherries. The mouthfeel is smooth and rich. Flavors of black cherries and some mild spice. Not beer, but good."

"Opens with a big healthy pop as the cork comes out followed by some smoke and then the overflow of fizzy foam. Lots of tart cherries. Dark reddish, almost purplish, color with a light pink-black-cherry-soda head. Super-fizzy with a lot of carbonation. Tastes almost like a soda. Aroma of sour/tart cherries. This was tart and sour enough to save it...Lindeman's lambics are usually rather too sweet for me. Couldn't really drink more than a glass or so. "

"Pours a dark red with a red head. It doesn't smell great but neither do cherries. It tastes better than I expected. Sweet cherries, not tart. Not bad at all."

"this ruby elixir has acid/tart qualities that are a nice mix with the sweetness of the cherries. zero medicinal quality in this one (like the Kasteel). the sweetness of this beer is similar, with a touch of added acidity and tart cherry alongside the sweet. my favorite of the Lindemans line so far, and just a hair better than the Kasteel Rouge. A great, refreshing dessert beer."

"A very delicious lambic. It had a medium dark red colored body with a cherry red head that didn't last very long. Initially I smelled tart yet somewhat sweet cherries and some cherry blossom floral notes. When I tasted it I was immediately taken aback by the perfect balance of tart and sweet cherry flavors. A great beer to sip during the summer or when enjoying a sweet dessert."
