Off in the distance, a Red Barn hides out content to do nothing more than was asked of it. Another summer day stretches out towards the crisp autmn nights and soon work will begin on another harvest. The barn relaxes knowing full well that for each and every season, it will remain unmoved--yet touched by everything that nature has to offer. And we're left to wonder, does anyone notice or even care to stop and appreciate the beauty of the Red Barn? We did, and so we brewed this lightly spiced farmhouse ale in honor of our favorite season--summer.

"Dirty blond color with nice head and lacing. Aroma of spice and fruit. Flavor was sweet with fruit, honey and some spice (maybe the Grains of Paradise or the Ginger) that I just didn’t like with the fruity flavor at all. Feel free to stone me if you will, but I don’t like it, really."

"I had this at a beer dinner at RFD in Washington, DC where author Lucy Saunders paired a multi-course meal with different beers. So this was my first time having this beer.
Saisons are an area where I haven't dabbled much into, but I am very eager and willing. This Lost Abbey brew was interesting to say the least.
The beer poured out with an extremely nice head. It was a little cloudy with a light orangy-amber color to it. The aroma was subtle, but nothing that wowed me.
Flavorwise, I couldn't put my finger on it, but there was a lot going on here. It had a very pleasant taste to it, with a slight tartness. I definitely agree with ante's assessment that it had a citrus and pepper flavor to it as well. The aftertaste is what really was kicking about this beer. It was great. Give this a try....I might try to pick some up for a Thanksgiving or Christmas beverage. "

"Pours a slightly hazy gold with a good head. The aroma is of lemon and bay leaf, a little hay malt. Fairly dry with an herbal/spicy flavor that’s quite nice. Pretty refreshing. The spices sound werid, but are balanced and very pleasant. "

"Tasting courtesy, Slob. Pour was cloudy amber with reddish/orange type hues. Good initial head, fine lacing. The aroma was bananas, lots of phenolic and spicey character, yet the phenolic aspects carried with it either a fusel or chemical, almost plastic, or something off note with it, yet not displeasing, just off. The flavor was much the same, a spiced up hefeweizen almost, again, though, some sort of off spice or something under it all, not necessarily displeasing, yet I couldn't place my tongue on it or tout it postively. Mouthfeel was typical for the style, amply carbonated with a malty backbone. Not a bad brew, and much thanks to Bert for this opportunity! Re-rate, 7/08 on a bottle that was about a year old: No off phenolic aspects, pretty nice Belgian-Ale to Saison cross with a definite bitter hop type finish. Spices had all settled and nearly diminished, traces of the grains of paradise noticeable, but that's about it. Caramel was the malt feature flavor. Decent brew, rating stands."

"Bottle: Poured a light beige color ale with a huge foamy head with great retention and lacing. Aroma of funky yeast with some nice spices and light ester. Taste is also dominated by some sweet fruit notes as well as some spices and the funky yeast. Average body with great carbonation. I thought it was a bit too sweet for my own palate but still enjoyable overall."
