Brewery Description:
Not to be confused with the Malting Shovel Tavern, which was started by James Squire after Squire started growing hops in Australia and brewing beer in the early 1800's. The Malt Shovel Brewery is the result of Dr. Chuck Hahn's persistence in brewing. Dr. Hahn orignally opened the Camperdown location brewery, which then became "Hahn Brewery," which was sold to Lion Nathan, where Dr. Hahn was the chief brewer until 1998. After Dr. Nathan's work at Lion Nathan, he returned to his Camperdown location to restart brewing craft beers at the Malt Shovel Brewery. The brewery is not part of Lion Nathan, as of 2005.
