"Pale golden colour, not much head. Aroma is wheat and bitter hops (?), it’s quite special. Weak sour fruitiness too. Flavour is malts, wheat and hops with weak bananaish hints... Aftertaste is wheaty and fruity. Not the typical German Hefeweizen.... Rich carbonation. "

"I had been in Sydney for about a week before I came across this beer, I found it very refreshing, it had a clean crisp taste, nice body and head retention with all the classic hefeweizen characteristics. I have not had this beer for many years, it is definitely on my wish list. I have had friends who have gone to Australia and have requested a few bottles back for me."

"My first ever wheat beer...... consumed in the mid 80s or somesuch. Probably at the London Hotel in Balmain, who always were a step ahead of the rest.
Even then, it was sold over the bar with a slice of lemon aka Corona & lime. But I think Redback is iconic, and doesn't need the fruit.
Golden yellow, whipped white head, very attractive looking beer. No haze. The head fades quickly, unlike the distant German cousins. Mixed aromas & flavours of lemon, wheat malt, some subtle hop flavours yet little bitterness.
As for matching style, there are far better examples. Yet to be honest, I can't objectively review this; it's a part of my formative years, and I love it."

"A best australian wheat beer ive ever had.
nice aromas, spicy but slightly citrus.
cool bottle, pours with a bubbly but sort of creamy think head and usually accompanied by a slice of lemon to release the lemon citrus flavours within.
lovely brass colour, no preservatives as it is brewed in north freo by matilda bay . one of my favourites. "
