Stickler’s Best Bitter
When I start reeling off names like Fuggles and Maris Otter, my kids think I am about to read them a story. But both of these odd English names play an important part in this Brewer’s Reserve beer.
Stickler’s Best Bitter was a great project, a chance to polish up on my British brewing history. We used very traditional ingredients for a beer that’d make any true-hearted Englishman yearn for the Motherland.
It’s modeled on time-honoured English bitters, and we sourced Maris Otter malt, Fuggles and East Kent Goldings hops from the UK. We also used Burtonised (or “hard” water), which is brewing water that’s had special brewing salts and minerals added back into it before it’s used. To complete the all-English side we used a yeast called Fuller’s 1968.
Stickler’s is exactly what Brewer’s Reserve is all about, beers for lovers of classic brews from around the world.
