"One of several bottles that my buddy John picked up while volunteering at the World Beer Conference (when it was held here in San Diego). With such obscure beers such as this, I feel lousy for not having showed up to help out at this event!
12-oz brown bottle, with very little non-Kanji on either the front or back label. "Nasu Land Beer" logo is rather strange looking -- kinda reminds me of the Phoenix Coyotes (NHL) team logo, if that rings any bells with you.... except it's a court jester vice coyote....
Anyway, poured this into a glass, and immediately picked up on the rather agressive hop profile. Yep, this definately does meet the requirements of what I look for in a Pilsener. Kudos there.
But the flavor isn't as crisp as I would have liked, to be honest. The mouthfeel and malt bill both seem rather soft and mushy for the style. Not horrible, but it's just kinda lays there, not going anywhere fast. But this was thirst-quenching, while helping my buddy John brew up a batch of ESB homebrew.
According to the brewery website, this retails for 580¥ in Japan. But while I'm sure I would be drinking this all the time over there (pricey or not), it's not something that I would go out of my way for on this side of The Pacific. Still, not too shabby overall...
