Abbey Grand Cru is a richer version of our Abbey, a Belgian "Double" style ale. It is brown in color, with a full body and a distinctive fruity aroma. Abbey Grand Cru is fermented with an authentic Belgian yeast strain, and is refermented in the bottle to produce natural carbonation. The beer should be served cool (not cold) to best experience the rich aroma and complex flavors. Abbey Grand Cru will continue to improve and age gracefully for several years, if stored in a cool dark cellar.

"Sampled at the brewery. It was stronger than their abbey, and the flavor was a bit more complex. I really enjoyed this one. I recommend this one if you can find it. "

"
Pours a dark red tinged brown, almost mahogany, with a dense one finger head that settles slowly to a soapy cap. The subsequent lacing is very thick and sticky.
Smell; dark fruits with plums and dates with a little bit of cherries thrown in. There's a bit of a oaky presence with vanilla, as well as some caramel and candied sugar.
Taste; the dark fruits come out very nicely with plums, dates, grapes and cherries. Chocolate, caramel and candied sugar and a nice sweetness to a bit of an alcohol bite towards the middle. In the finish there's bit bit of a chalkiness that must be from the yeasts.
Mouthfeel/Drinkability; mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, and with the alcohol and chalky feeling this is a little drying, but otherwise very good. Drinkabilty is good, and would be even higher with a lower abv."

"Was given a sample of this while touring New Belgium Brewery. Takes everything great about their normal Abbey and kicks it up. Reddish brown color, with an excellent malty aroma. Flavor has a slight alcohol taste to it, but it is hardly noticeable next to the sweet, fruity flavor. Excellent beer!"

"Sampled at the New Belgium Brewery. Poured a nice copper color with a nice thick head. Malty and fruity aroma. Very malty and fruity flavor as well. Strong flavor that had a nice hoppiness to it. Bold and delicious, I wish this was sold outside of the brewery. One of the best beers I've ever had."
