Wood aged beer brewed using various bacterial strains. A belgian-style ale similiar to the Belgian Red like Rodenbach.

"Tried this at the brewery. It's difficult to grade this beer because this is my first experience with a sour. It had a very sharp/tart sour taste that did not appeal to me at first. By the end of my sample, it grew on me a bit. I'd like to try different sours to see how this one stands up to the rest. "

"I had this at a beer dinner at RFD in Washington, DC where author Lucy Saunders paired a multi-course meal with different beers. So this was my first time having this beer.
Pucker up for this one folks! I've been dying to try some of this New Belgium La Folie for a while and was finally able to do it. I'm very pleased with what I've tasted.
If you were given a small glass of this stuff, and you didn't know what it was, by it's look, you'd probably think it is whiskey. It has that clear brown look to it and a microscopic head.
Upon putting your nose near it though, you soon realize that it's not whiskey and actually has a very sour smell to it. It's almost vinegar like.
Once it hits your lips though, you put it all together. Over the last year or so, I've really been getting into sour beers and this one ranks up there with the best of 'em. It is an acquired taste though. This one will make you pucker and it is very acidy. If thats your thing, then I think you'll love this barrel aged beauty.
I know this is gonna sound weird, but at the dinner this was paired with cole slaw. Pretty damn good pairing if you ask me. "

"Beer pours deep dark caramel color with nice head and lacing. Strong aroma of vinegar and cherries. Rich full flavor, very sour cherry flavor with that horseblanket lambic flavor. I would have thought this was a fruit lambic over a flemish sour. Very strong...but a slow sipper."

"Bottle courtesy of BeerandBlues2: Poured a deep reddish color ale with a medium foamy head with better then average retention. Aroma of oak and tart is quite impressive with some tannic qualities also discernable. Taste is quite sour and tart with a nice oak presence and some subtle sour cherries. I thought taste had some great tannic qualities and was very reminiscent of Rodenbach Grand Cru, which is a great compliment when coming from me. I would love to try this again and I really appreciated all the complexities that this beer had to offer."

"NorCal tasting Apr 07 - This was the last beer of the night and one sip of this and you can see why. Such an intense, acidic, mouth stripping character, this is right up on par with Cantillon in terms of intensity. Aroma was cherries, concentrated vinegar, wood and some light malt. Appearance is amber in color, hazy with a foamy white head. Mouthfeel is acidic and stripping, like swigging around acid of some kind. Flavors were like the candy WarHeads with an intense sourness to go along with the acidity that's just off the charts. It really makes it hard to distinguish any other flavors due to the assault your tastebuds are under. A Flemish Sour? Not really sweet enough me thinks. Perhaps a lambic? Good stuff though no matter what it is. Hardcore for sure."
