Cask conditioned ale has been the popular choice among brews since long before prohibition. We continue this pioneer spirit with our Wisconsin farmhouse ale. Brewed with flaked barley and the finest Wisconsin malts. We even give a nod to our farmers with a little hint of corn.
Naturally cloudy we allow the yeast to remain in the bottle to enhance fullness of flavors, which can not be duplicated otherwise. Expect this Ale to be fun, fruity and satisfying. You know you’re in Wisconsin when you see the Spotted Cow.

"This is one of the several beers I picked up when visiting the New Glarus Brewing Company on my "Boozin Across Wisconsin Tour 2008". I purchased it in the store after I took a tour of the facilities.
The Spotted Cow is somewhat a legend in the state of Wisconsin. Although I had never tried it before my most recent trip, I had heard a lot about it. It seems to be the most popular New Glarus product out there. So I was excited for my first experience with the Spotted Cow.
The first thing I noticed about the beer was the aroma. I really didn't care for it much. Not that it was bad, but the corn-like smell just wasn't anything that I thought was great. The beer is light golden in color and had a small white head on it. The white head quickly retreated and was only around the rim of the glass within a minute or two.
The beer was pretty standard fare for New Glarus products in that it was very smooth drinking. The taste was grainy with a light sweetness to it. There was even a slight citrus taste in there that I picked up on.
This is pretty much a beer for the masses and I can see why it is wildly popular. Unfortunately I'm not a big fan of the beer for the masses. I like character, flavor, and oomph to my beer. Although it is a well crafted beer, it is just slightly above average in my book. "

"Only after I logged on to the website did I know that this was a Cream Ale. I honestly thought it was either some kind of pale lager or maybe a pils. It really didn't do much for me in terms of complexity but it was easy to drink. An aroma of corn with just a touch of fruit. Appearance is a honey golden color with a nice off-white head. Flavor is mostly honey-like malt sweetness, some corn and that's about it. It went down quickly, but that's the idea with this beer no doubt."

"Courtesy of pfoxyjohn. Pours a slightly cloudy pale yellow with a nice creamy head and some lacing. Ample carbonation. Aromas of sweet grass, cream and caramel, and hops. Taste is very smooth with a malty, yeasty base and a creamy, hoppy taste in the finish."

"This beer suffers from not enough carbonation and I can't believe I just said that. Pours a nice golden sunshine yellow with little or no head. The taste is there but it is flat.."

"pours golden yellow and very cloudy, with a thick inititial head that disipates quickly with little to no lacing. The flavor is mild and kind of boring. While its very popular here in WI. I don't consider it one of New Glarus' best. really kinda of HO -Hum"
