Pilgrim’s Dole is a barleywine-style ale made with fifty percent wheat malt, or what we at New Holland call a wheatwine. Pilgrim’s Dole blends warming and slightly sweet flavors with a unique caramelized character. It would be an excellent accent to nutty dishes, fruit crisps or creme brulee

"This beer pours a nice deep copper color with bright amber highlights and is topped off by a thin light brown colored head that quickly drops into a thin film atop the beer. The aroma is very sweet with some distinct breadyness and a touch of caramel. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied and slightly oily. The flavor is dominated by sweet toasty malts with a distinct wheat flavor and very nice accents of toffee, faint banana, and caramel."

"I found this in a grocery store discounted for $0.99! So far this is the best bargain I've stumbled across, because this is a first class beer. Poured into my small snifter, mild brown color with an amber tint. Swirly light tan filmy head and streaky lacing along with a nice constant carbonation. Thick malt nose, lots of dark roasted grains. The wonderful aroma is reminiscent of plain breakfast cereal that is lightly sweetened. Hearty and cozy it's nice to the nose. Tantalizingly sweet with a touch of fresh alcohol, it eases the taste buds with a grand smoothness. The half wheat and half barley malts blend well. I can tell that the wheat is a major contributer, but the flavor is still similar to a nice English Barleywine. A fermented dry sweetness from both malts are dominant in this beer. Tasty cereal grains with toffee and caramel. Some brown sugar as well, it's mealy and rich. All about the malts here, hops if even present don't contribute except for some balance. What a great treat enjoyed on the night of my 5th wedding anniversary. I have no idea on the age of this bottle, but it seemed perfectly conditioned."

"Pours a slightly hazy, bright copper color with a quarter inch head that fades quickly to a spotty cap and nice ring. Said ring leaves a pretty nice amount of lace behind.
Smell; floral and picy upfront, with a fairly strong wheat presence in the nose. There's a bit of a fruity presence.
Taste; fruity melons and some flavors that remind me of rum raisin bread. The wheaty flavors are there, along with a nice spicy flavor as well as a lingering sweetness with an alcohol bite mixed in. Mouthfeel is very thick and slighty syrupy, but not so much that it becomes distracting.
I've had this on tap at the brewpub before and really liked. I didn't know how this would hold up in the bottle, but I think New Holland did a fine job with this one."

"Medium orange color. Medium white foamy head. Aroma is caramel, brown sugar and very sweet. A full-bodied barley wine. Malts are very sweet and fruity (pineapple and apples). Hops are grapefruity, but they really donít show up till the end. For all that sweetness and the alcohol bite, its really a very smooth tasting barley wine. It does finish a little harshly, but some bottle aging could really improve this beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter, with a touch of an alcohol bite. Thanks TAR!"
