Whether The Poet is beer-poetry or comfort-beer is your up to you. Whichever you choose, it is an oatmeal stout with rich, smooth malt character enveloped in tones of roast and chocolate. A soft mouth-feel brings luxurious flavors and soothing aroma. Any time of year, The Poet is as versatile as it is delicious. It pairs wonderfully with earthy flavors such as mushrooms and beef, while remaining the perfect accent to any chocolate dessert.

"Bottle: Poured a clear black color ale with an average size foamy head with average retention but good lacing. Aroma consists of medium sweet chocolate with some light coffee notes. Taste is also dominated by light roasted malt notes with some medium sweet chocolates notes offset by some dry coffee. Full body with some medium carbonation. Very well done for the style and easily drinkable. "

"Bottle sample pours dark brown/light black with a minimal white head and a very surprising burst of carbonation. It looks more like a porter than a stout, as it seems thin. Aroma is very nice with dark chocolate, coffee, and roasted malts. Not a creamy mouthfeel as I'd expect with a stout, but thin as the appearance suggesting, but not unpleasant. A nice change. The taste is acidic at first with sweet sugars raisins, followed up by wonderfully bitter oatmeal. The finish is killer, definitely makes the beer and takes it from mediocre to nice. "

"This brew reminds me of drinking my morning coffee in both taste and color as well as in the nose, especially after allowing it to warm up to the 45 degrees suggested by the brewery. It's similar in color to a dark roasted coffee, too, with a slightly creamy mouthfeel, but still packing enough carbonation to produce a good-sized head, brownish in color."

"A generous amount of roasted malt is evident in the aroma. Dry oats, light coffee, milk chocolate, and moderate banana scents contribute to a very enticing aroma. Dark, very dark brown pour producing a huge slowly diminishing tan head and wavy lacing. Creamy and rather smooth, but the body is slightly lighter than it should be. Nice aftertaste with a bitter finish. Flavor is decent but is not as welcoming as the friendly aroma. Bitter roasted malt, milk sugar and smooth oats. Light chocolate and cream. Pretty tasty but it's slightly off, perhaps it's too bitter."
