"After smelling the cap of this import I got the idea that there might be a significant difference in taste between the bottled product and the canned product. My suspicion was quite right. The case of Newcastle proves to me how utterly absurd it is that any brewery would bottle their beer in clear glass.... I will review from a can. Pours a one finger thick off-white head that sticks around for a few minutes. The body is a dark reddish amber with little haze. Aroma consists of caramelized malts and cinnamon most prominently, with some brown sugar and a subtly hoppy character. There is a thin veil of spice present in the taste, but caramel malts again speak the loudest. It seems that the ideal serving temperature is a bit warmer than the average frig'; the malts are bit more well rounded when closer to room temperature. The lacing is consistent and looks like the foam on the surf of a beach, with the lower bands at the bottom being the thicker, more turbulent waves closer to the shore. Again, do yourself a favor and try to get this stuff in a can, particularly if it is being imported from long distances."

"Poured a clean brown with an almost nonexistant head. Aroma is mild, slightly sweet and malty. A smooth mouthfeel, kind of wet. Flavor is also mild, hard to tell that anything is there. A liquorice aftertaste that is pleasant but strange all the same. Overall not a bad brew just lacking in flavor."

"I really enjoy drinking this brown ale. Not much of an aroma but pours a beautiful brown color with a little white head. This beer goes down smooth and tastes great. "

"Had it on tap because it was the wrong beer so I got half price so I said "What the hell" might as well try something new , It has a pleasant aroma and color, but that is about it. Taste is very weird and interesting at the same time with an aftertaste of what I think is Liquorice. Feels good in the mouth but only for a bit. Had it once and thats about it for me. "

"Newcastle to me is a confusing beer, sometimes it can be a really soild, decent brew. Other times it is awful, in my my opinion this is one of the most inconsistant beers on the market. Hard to put a score on this one but when its good a 3 to 3.2 when its not 1 to 2."
