On October 13, 2007, at out Brewery Tenth Anniversary Party (Waffles and Puppets) we’ll introduce Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence Stout to the world. Chocolate Indulgence comes with a thick tan head of foam resting on top of the rich onyx-colored liquid. The aroma immediately speaks of dark chocolate and dark malts. The gentle herbal nose of Perle hops compliments the darker notes, making the beer savory to the senses.
The taste continues with the intense Belgian dark chocolate gliding across the tongue; starting sweet up front but giving way to rich cocoa flavors at the back. Through it all, a subtle fruitiness from our special Belgian yeast gives the beer brightness otherwise foreign to a beer style normally associated with gray foggy skies.
Lingering chocolate entices the drinker to taste more. Go ahead. Dessert is good for the soul.

"Presentation: poured from a 750ml bottle into an Imperial (nonic) pint glass.
Appearance: It has a dark brown almost black colored murky body that's very opaque. The head is thick and frothy with rocky peaks and a tan color.
Smell: The aroma is malty, toasted and has only a very faint hint of cocoa powder.
Taste/Mouth feel: There are dark toasted and roasted malt flavors with hints of bittersweet chocolate dust and some espresso coffee notes as well. There is a modest hop flavor that adds some bitterness to the finish, which also has a slight metallic touch to it. The texture is smooth and a little bit thin on the palate with a good carbonation and a medium body.
Notes: I have had this at Brewery Ommegang during the 2007 Waffles and Puppets event and I don't remember it having any metallic flavor to it. Overall I still enjoied it and look forward to having more of it at this years Waffles and Puppets.

"Bottle courtesy of Kryptic: Poured a pitch-black color ale with a huge foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma is totally dominated by loads of chocolate malt notes with some subtle sweetness. Taste is a mix between some huge chocolate notes with some light sweet notes. Body is slightly thin for the style with a nice creamy texture thought and some good carbonation. Alcohol was not apparent. Overall, a very interesting experiment by this fine brewery but lacking some character and maybe some lactose to be truly inspiring."

"Expected more from this brewery. Poured a dark dark brown with chocolate head. Aroma was very smokey coffee chocolate. Flavor roasted chocolate and bad coffee, hint of metallicness to it. Not good for me at all.

"On tap at Hamilton’s. Pours with a dark brown to black body topped by a medium thick tan head with some lacing left behind. It’s malty and roasty with nice underlying chocolate notes and a bit of sweetness. Full bodied and relatively smooth with a slight underlying warmth."

"Pours a deep dark brown-black, chocolate covered head (nicely sized, not overly done, though, with uber Belgian yeast or anything), decent Belgian-esque lacing. The aroma was smokey roasted chocolate, some coffee. The flavor was strong roasted notes, some smoke, chocolate, espresso, some non-fermented Belgian-esque sugars leftover (molasses notes too?), metallic notes, light grass, high bitterness. Mouthfeel was moderate with high carbonation. Not to my liking, not what I expected either, sorry Ommegang."
