Belgian pale & pilsner malts w/ Styrian Golding for bittering and Saaz for aroma. Ginger predominates the spicing. Fermented in primary with Ommegang's house yeast, followed by secondary with Brettanomyces bruxellensis. Dry-hopped in secondary w/ a blend of hops; Tettnang being the stand-out. The flavor profile is very herbal with an earthy undertone (very fitting for a Belgian-style farmhouse ale). The dry finish and pronounced hop aromas hide the 8% abv very well. Dangerously drinkable for its strength and character.

"Batch #3 - April 2008
Tonight my friend Rob brought over a bottle of Ommegeddon Funkhouse Ale. I absolutely love Ommegang products and was excited to get a bottle of this.
The beer has a cloudy, light amber color to it with an explosive white head that starts off thick and dies down only a little bit. It leaves behind some absolutely excellent lacing on the side of the glass as you drink it down. The aroma is that of apples, pear, yeast, and white bread.
Funkhouse is probably the proper term for this one. This definitely has a funky taste to it that really rocks. It's got a little bit of everything funky in there with some yeast, apple, hops, wheat, grains, and even a bit of tartness. It's really good and smooth drinking. I love it!
I'm definitely sold on this one. Bring me some more Rob!"

"Poured a cloudy yellow with an excellently-laced, dense white head. Unusual nose; fresh, earthy, and spicy. Soft, smooth, full palate. Flavors dominated by unmistakable Bretty sourness, yielding to a firm, dry, hop bitterness. "

"Presentation: It was poured from a brown, corked and caged bottle marked batch #2, March 2008 and served in a tulip glass.
Appearance: The body is cloudy with a pale yellow orange color and it has some active carbonation that rushes up to the head. Its head is white, fluffy and builds up thick and tall. It has excellent retention and coats the whole inside of the glass with lace.
Smell: The aroma is lovely combination of fruity and funky yeast with notes of pear and dried apricot, mellow floral hops, light wheat and doughy malt.
Taste/Mouth feel: The flavor hits the tongue with tart funky yeast, sour grain and wheat. Hops come in and add an almost minty herbal flavor and mild bitterness. The finish is dry and the yeast flavor lingers, begging me to sip again. On the palate it has a light to medium body and a smooth texture with active yet smooth carbonation.
Notes: Its palate makes it easy to sip and its complex aroma and interesting flavor enticed me to drink on. Very well done!

"I saw this one advertised as a wild ale. So I'm game. A cloudy straw-yellow body with lots of bubbily carbonation and very little in the head (something my wife says about me). A good malty-yeast nose. A touch of hops and grass. There's potential in the hints of complexity but it falls short of standing on ceremoony."

"I’m sorry...I love Ommegang but this is not a winner. Straw color, next to no head, maybe a little lacing. Weak aroma of fruit. The flavor was that of overripe fruit (and I hate that flavor) with only a little brett (and this bottle is a year old) funkiness. Flat in the mouthfeel and just rather sickly sweet through and through. Talk about a major disappointment! "
